Any exciting seasonal activities/ summer festivals coming up?

Will be heading to japan during the dreaded month of august (yes I know it’s arguably the worst time to visit, but it’s the only period my schedule could accommodate…).

So to cheer things up, are there any exclusive festivals coming up that I can catch during summer? Any tips on beating the heat for those who’ve been there in august would be lovely too, thank you everybody!

Would you feel offended?

Will you feel offended if someone (e.g. friend/ relative) sits in the back instead of front?

May or may not have accidentally sat in the back of friend’s car recently by default because too used to sitting behind for grabcar. I personally don’t mind but understand some may feel offended cause it makes them seem like a chauffeur.

I feel so bad and can’t stop thinking about it… though then again sometimes front seat has handbag and stuff so how

What are some outdated norms/ concepts that should be revised?

Thought about this because I have a western colleague who recently shared that she’s marrying a singaporean (chinese) guy soon, and was going on about whether she needed to wear red for the wedding, have all the traditional auspicious prints etc.

Not sure whether to giggle or would that be a little offensive because we don’t really follow that here anymore in sg 😅🤣

(Edit: to clarify, i’m not saying that wearing red is outdated. I’m referring to the perception that marrying a chinese spouse means must wear red, must do certain traditional things, must have kids in what zodiac etc which may not necessarily be the case today)

Best destination choice/ duration for this summer?

Hi everyone, I’m planning a japan trip in august and will have around 18 days to spare. I know this question’s probably been asked a million times, but what’s your ideal duration for the usual three destinations (tokyo, kyoto, osaka)?

I’m currently thinking about 5 days in tokyo, 4 days in kyoto, and 4 days in osaka (including 2 day trips to Nara & kobe). Would these be enough/ too long in each place? I love a good temple relaxation day but just wanna make sure it wouldn’t get too boring!

This also leaves me with another 5 more days to spare, so I’m wondering if I should add busan or hokkaido into the trip too. Any insights are greatly appreciated!

Are we technically island boys/girls?

Since singapore is an island country, does that mean we technically count as island boys & island girls? Just a shower thought.

So when overseas, can just introduce as “i’m from the islands”? 😅 Sounds like moana lol

Stars & moon viewed from Sentosa

Took these at Palawan beach last night, 20/6/2026. Never realized the night sky view at sentosa was so immaculate with these many stars. Too bad it wasn’t a full moon.

There’s so many of them, probably an astronomy expert can name these stars?
