Awkward living room layout
Since having a child, the functional requirements of our living room have changed pretty dramatically. I have been trying to work out the ideal layout to accommodate our daughter’s items (play tent, crash pad, toy box) as part of the living area, rather than pushed out of the way wherever it will fit.
The living room is an extension that was built prior to our purchasing the house and it has some features that limit layout options - the original external glass door is still in place and is the entry to the lounge room, the original window from kitchen to the backyard was retained and now looks in to the living area, the entry to the backyard is a glass sliding door that makes up one of the walls of the living area, fireplace in corner of the room.
I have just rearranged the room to the layout in the photos, previously the TV has been mounted on the brick wall and the couch has been facing it, leaving a sort of dead are behind the couch which is where our daughter’s things have been.
I’m looking for any advice that may improve the flow of the room. I think the only problem with it now is the space behind the couch and the wall, leading to the fireplace. This is the main thoroughfare to get to the back door, so it can’t be closed off, but it feels like something is missing?
\*\*I haven’t actually moved the TV yet but have mocked up what it will look like when it’s mounted it in the new spot above the TV unit
