Awkward living room layout

Since having a child, the functional requirements of our living room have changed pretty dramatically. I have been trying to work out the ideal layout to accommodate our daughter’s items (play tent, crash pad, toy box) as part of the living area, rather than pushed out of the way wherever it will fit.

The living room is an extension that was built prior to our purchasing the house and it has some features that limit layout options - the original external glass door is still in place and is the entry to the lounge room, the original window from kitchen to the backyard was retained and now looks in to the living area, the entry to the backyard is a glass sliding door that makes up one of the walls of the living area, fireplace in corner of the room.

I have just rearranged the room to the layout in the photos, previously the TV has been mounted on the brick wall and the couch has been facing it, leaving a sort of dead are behind the couch which is where our daughter’s things have been.

I’m looking for any advice that may improve the flow of the room. I think the only problem with it now is the space behind the couch and the wall, leading to the fireplace. This is the main thoroughfare to get to the back door, so it can’t be closed off, but it feels like something is missing?

\*\*I haven’t actually moved the TV yet but have mocked up what it will look like when it’s mounted it in the new spot above the TV unit

AITA - Husband wants us to travel interstate with our toddler for a 40th birthday but doesn’t want to arrange local childcare

My husband and I have been invited to his friend’s 40th birthday. It is in another state and would require us to take a 5 hour flight to get there. We would bring our 2 year old for the trip, which would be our first as a family. We received the invitation today and my husband said he wants us to go, but suggested I would have to leave the party early (7pm) to take our daughter back to the accommodation for the night, as he doesn’t want a stranger to babysit our child. He framed this initially as ‘What do you think we’ll do with our daughter? I don’t want there to be a problem if we go all that way and then we can’t find a babysitter. I don’t want it to be weird if I stay and you can’t’. After some probing, he said the reason is he doesn’t want to use at a sitter we don’t know.

His friend is married and they have a daughter 2 years older than ours. They have lived in the area for close to 10 years, so have a network of friends and family there. Children are invited to the party for the afternoon but it’s adults only from around 7pm (understandably).

This has become an argument between us as I feel we should be asking his friends if they know and trust a local babysitter before deciding I would need to leave the party early. He said he thinks I’m being selfish as it’s his friend’s birthday, not mine (although we do hang out as a group whenever we’re in the same place) so it should be fine for me to leave early.

AITA?

Hi! I’m wanting to buy a Small Cloud Carry On in person in Perth, WA but am struggling to find stockist info online. Kate and Abel in Freo used to have a large range but is, unfortunately, closed now. Does anyone know of any local stores? I’m happy to drive north or south to browse in person!
