An Australian Response to President Trump Regarding Greenland

“You run a country where 600,000 people will sleep on the streets tonight without a home. A country where 40% of adults cannot cover a $400 emergency expense without borrowing money. A country where a dose of insulin costs more than a monthly car payment, forcing people to ration their insulin doses just to stay alive.

A country where medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy. A country where women die in hospital parking lots because doctors, afraid of abortion laws, no longer dare to treat cases of miscarriage.

You imprison more of your own citizens than any other country on Earth. More than China. More than Russia. More than North Korea. The ‘land of the free’ puts two million people behind bars, and a quarter of them have not even been convicted of a crime. They are simply too poor to afford bail.

Your life expectancy is declining. You are the only developed country where this is happening. Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba’s. Your children practice active-shooter drills between math and English classes, while shares of weapons manufacturers are sold to your friends.

Your minimum wage has not changed in 15 years. You have teachers working two jobs and veterans sleeping under bridges, while you just spent a trillion dollars destroying a country that never attacked you.

And on top of all that, you have a narcissistic and deranged provocateur — judicially convicted, found liable for rape, a protector of child abusers, and a man obsessed with porn stars — leading the most disastrous and chaotic war campaigns since the Taliban warmly thanked you for losing in Afghanistan yet again. And after all this, you have the audacity to say that Greenland is poorly governed?

Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. And one of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. No one goes bankrupt there because they get sick. No one dies in a waiting room because an insurance company refused to cover their treatment. ‘NATO wasn’t there when we needed it.’ When exactly was that, champ? On September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in its history — for you. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, shed blood, and died in Afghanistan for you.

Australia wasn’t even a member of NATO, yet we answered the call. For 20 years. Then you left at 2 a.m. without informing anyone, leaving everyone else to deal with the chaos yourselves. So before you say that other countries are poorly governed, take a good look at what is happening right outside your own door, you pathetic salesman of orange-painted aluminum junk.

The only thing that has been badly managed in this entire story is your big, damn mouth.”
