Should/could I cut down my Asian lilies now a month after they stopped blooming?

The garden is looking rough. I’ve cut back the day lilies as they had gone yellow and brown. I’m never sure if I should cut other plants back too. Right now it’s my Asian lilies. They are prolific bloomers and I’ve always left them to be cut back after the frost. But they do look pretty rough and messy.

Cut or leave?

EDIT: thanks folks. I will but the ratty tops off and leave them to soak up the nutrients!

Is there a way to incorporate fruit pulp in a cake? Is there a way to judge how “wet” it is?

Edit: I did it! I actually used whole clementine oranges and fresh peaches puréed to pulp in my food processor. Then I took out the milk, added a bit of oil to the butter, and added a tsp of baking soda. It worked! I’m icing it now.

and My favourite birthday cake recipe calls 1.25 cups of milk. How do I substitute fresh peach puree for some or all of the milk? Or use puree mixed with cream? I haven’t found a recipe on line that I think could work except perhaps a passion fruit cake. (I haven’t found never had passion fruit so I don’t know how it would compare)

My recipe;
3 cups cake flour
1 3/4 cups white sugar
1 1/4 cups milk
1/2 cup butter
2eggs
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Recommend a sewing box or desk to take the place of my old box!

My 50 year old plastic box is crumbling! It’s the best sewing box I’ve ever seen, with designated slots for scissors, bobbins, spools, pins, thimbles even! Second layer is great for elastic, needles, stitch ripper, etc. The bottom is a big storage area for zippers and ribbons.

I can not! bear fishing boxes with everything rolling around. But I have to organize this!

I have over a hundred spools of thread of various kinds: cotton, polyester, stretch, elastic, invisible, buttonhole twist, silk, beading etc.

Anyone find a good box or even a desk that would save me?

Any good recipes using halva as an ingredient? Or ideas to save this block?

I bought a slab of halva that is completely crumbly. It just disintegrates into a pile of sand if you try to cut it. I’m open to suggestions for how to make it solid, or for good recipes. Ottolenghi’s walnut halva cake sounded good but it only uses chunks for a topping and that won’t work with this stuff.

Best place to convert old photo slides to digital?

I’ve got so many old slides. And looking at them on our little slide viewer is so unsatisfactory. Is there a good inexpensive place in town to convert some of them to digital so I can share them with family?

Any vets not corporation owned?

The vet I’ve been going to has had suspicious price rises and beautiful makeover of the clinic! While I liked the vets I’m not a millionaire and this is getting to be too much.

I hate changing from people my pet knows and that know her history. I’d have to be confident in the care, and that they wouldn’t be bought up soon too!

A decent sewing box?

My SO got me a great sewing box many years ago. It’s very large, has a top tier with dedicated slots for 30 bobbins, scissors, shears, pins and pegs for 40 spools. That lifts out and there’s a second tier with slots for measuring tape, hemming measure, needles and other long things. That lifts out and under it there’s room for elastics, ribbons, machine accessories etc. The problem is it is plastic and the plastic is now old and cracking. The handles broke off and it has split.

Nothing I have seen compares to my great crumbling box! Does anyone have suggestions for a really good replacement?

So frustrated! Another hose has not lasted a second season, actually only 9 months!

Can anyone recommend hoses that last?

A split halfway down a 25’ hose that I got in the fall to replace one that almost made it through two summers. Yes I drain them. No I don’t run them over with the mower.

I have a 200’ property with spigots at both ends and I have good brass Y valves and soaker hoses. But the feeder hoses never last! And no I don’t leave the water on all the time so they aren’t under constant pressure.

I have some retractable ones that have lasted a couple of years and when they spring a leak I’ve been able to cut them and reattach the fittings. I like them because they are so lightweight.

Sewing a wedding dress for my niece from her grandma’s pattern

At the age of 17, my mother made her own dress for her wedding in 1942. They remained married and in love until his death at 94. Mom died last year at 101.

My niece wanted to wear her grandmas dress for her upcoming wedding. Mom had kept it all those years and they were the same size, but it had deteriorated. The lace and jersey had holes and some discolouration.

Mom also kept the pattern (though the instructions were missing). So I hunted up similar fabric, a bit better quality since mom couldn’t afford better at 17, and I have made her the dress as a wedding gift. She will wear my mother’s silk satin bias slip under it.

It’s all done except the hemming which I will do when she comes to visit and try it on next month.

Picture 2 is my mom’s dress. Picture 3 is the one I’ve made. ( I actually added a bit more width at the bottom so that it’s got Ginger Roger’s twirl when she dances!)

I had LRTI on my dominant hand/wrist two months ago. I’m so glad!

First pic is one week post op while getting stitches out and a new cast. You can see the pin holding my thumb in place. It was taken out after three weeks. Second pic is after five weeks and full cast was replaced with a removable splint.

Re pain: first 36 hours was really painful, I just kind of zoned out and I needed Tylenol 3s. After that I’ve had regular Tylenol about four times. (I can’t take NSAIDS of any kind).

I have followed all instructions carefully, I see an occupational therapist once or twice a week. I do all of the recommended exercises, the hot and cold soaks, and wear the splint as much as they said. And my recovery has been remarkable, according to my OT.

I have almost completely regained my range of motion and have started on strength training.

I can’t wait to get my other hand done!!
