Plumpernickel is doing so great!

Plumpie was a "working cat" when we adopted him June 3. We really did think he would be an outside cat. He decided to be a teddybear instead. When we adopted him I could see his ribs, he was so skinny, and he couldn't lift his tail at all (he dragged it through his food, water, litter box). Now he is living up to his name (he eats like it's his J.O.B.), has learned how to hustle for Greenies from our 2 pre-existing inside cats, and he can lift his tail about half mast. He's so healthy and he's thriving, and we love him so much. #glowup #nebelung

Peeing in our beds

Looking for some advice. We have two adoped indoor cats who have been in the home for 3 years. We adopted 2 feral cats about 3.5 months ago. We did 60 day outdoor acclimation period. Both used their litterboxes in their crates faithfully. One was pretty eager to be inside, loves to cuddle, and couldn't be any sweeter. We kept him separated from our existing cats for couple weeks and then started to integrate them. He did really well for about a month, but recently started peeing on our beds, usually first thing in the morning before we get up. When we closed off the bedrooms he peed in a cat bed. We tried having hubs sleep with him in the TV room last night separate from the other cats, but he peed on the cat bed after breakfast. We just scrubbed out all the litter boxes, and have moved one to another room. We have an appointment tomorrow to check for a UTI. Any other advice? Anything we're missing? TIA

Plumpie update

Almost 4 months ago we adopted 2 feral "working cats" on death row at the local shelter. We kept them crated on our back screened porch for 60 days. Plumpie identifies as and indoor cat, a lap cat even. He worked very hard to restrain his murder mittens and learned to use his soft paws when he needs attention. He's a world class cuddler. He sounds like an ewok when he chatters at us. He's sooooo soft now. And so handsome. And so sweet! He learned how to hustle for greenies immediately, and has always used the litter box like a gentleman. Our two existing housemate (former strays) are mostly chill with the occasional.hiss or aggression. He's rising above it. Last Pic is obligatory shelter shot.

Update on Boomie

Almost 4 months ago we adopted 2 feral "working cats" on death row at the local shelter. We kept them crated on our back screened porch for 60 days. Boomie took off on liberation day but he now comes back every night for dinner, often sticks around on our deck through the night, and now sticks around for a few more treats in the a.m. If we Crack open the sliding kitchen door and put a hand out he will let us pet him for hours. If we go outside he tends to stay at least a couple yards away. He is still too skittish to be close to humans unless there's a glass door between us. He seems to like watching the inside cats and they like watching him! They do come nose to nose at the kitchen door and so far no hissing or hostility. We're still hoping he'll let us get close to him without the door between us. We want to be able to get him to a vet for FIV testing and flea/tick meds. And hopefully he will give some thought to being an inside cat before winter. He's a good boy. He's super affectionate (with boundaries). He loves greenies! He's sooooo handsome. Last Pic is his shelter shot.

This Handsome Gentleman

We adopted 2 "working cats" 3 months ago, did the whole crating thing on our back screened porch for 60 days. One cat socialized quickly and moved indoors about a month ago. Boomie (handsome tuxedo) seems to prefer outdoor living. We still feed him daily in the screened porch (he has a pet door) and he mostly comes at night to eat or enjoy the 2 humans + 3 cats inside the house that he can watch through the living room windows. If we go outside he runs a few yards away. But if we just crack the kitchen door about 4 inches he'll let us pet him and he's super affectionate. I'm not sure why it's OK through the door but he's still scared when we just sit on the other side of the door. He loves greenies and will eat a churu fed through the door but not all the way outside. We plan to keep working with him. But any tips for earning trust would be appreciated! He is neutered, vaxed, chipped, etc. We still want to get him tested for FIV, get rabies boosters as needed, and get him on a flea and tick med every month. While it would be great if he moved inside at some point, we're letting boomie call the shots right now. We live in a safe, quiet neighborhood and our neighbors all have his picture and know he's ours.

Just a regular cat now

3 months ago, Plumpernickel (gray with clipped ear) was a "working cat" (read: feral) on death row at the local shelter. He served his time in a crate on our screened porch for 60 days, but decided he would rather be an indoor lap cat. He has integrated with our indoor 2 rescue cats (Zee and Smokey) pretty well! He knows how to hustle for greenies and take over the human bed like he's been doing it his whole life lol. We love this kid so much!

Boomie

Almost 3 months ago we took in a couple of feral cats on death row at the local shelter. They were labeled by locsl feral cat rescue and the shelter as "working cats" and we were told they would always have to live outside. We did the 60 day acclimation phase out on our screened porch in large crates. One cat socialized himself and is now indoors. We leave food in the screened porch for the other cat, Boomie, and he's been showing himself at night (and dawn) more frequently (and he comes up to the windows to see our indoor cats, gets one of them really riled up!). Boomie still backs away if we try to go outside while he's on the deck. For the first time last night I was able to open the sliding door a little and he didn't tun away. He is sooooo affectionate. He also has the cutest squeak of a meow, and he purred while rubbing his head, ears and face against my hand. He also finally accepted a churu. We can't bring him inside until he's tested for FIV (3 cats inside), and we would like to get him on a flea Rx. Since he only comes out at night and is still pretty skittish, it would be hard to trap him to get him to the vet. Any thoughts on how we get him to come closer or trust us more, how we can get him out during the day? We're happy to be patient, but i would love to get him indoors before winter. Or at least get him to see the screened porch as his catio. We have a heated cat house and can get an outdoor space heater if we need to. Thanks for your advice!

Plumpernickel

We adopted Plumpernickel from the local feral cat rescue/shelter. Both the rescue and shelter labeled him a "working cat". We were told to keep him crated out on our screened porch to acclimate him to our location and regular food. He was scared of us the first 2 weeks but after that he started to socialize himself. He wanted affection, but at first was a little too grabby with his murder mittens. Over the last couple of months he's learned how to use his soft paws. We got him checked out and chipped at the vet and had his vaccines boosted, now he's an indoor kitty we are working to acclimated to our existing 2 indoor kitties. He's a lap cat. A cuddlebug. I don't know how this kid was feral, but he has decided to change his life. He has.gained weight, his hair has grown in thick and soft, and he is learning how to be kind, gentle, and how to treat friends. All credit goes to Plumpie! He's a good boy and he wants to be good.

New nebbie?

We adopted a couple of feral cats ("working cats") on death row at rhe local shelter. My first time with feral! We have to acclimate them for 60 days in a crate (or else they run off and starve). First 2 weeks Plumpernickel hid out all day in his cabin, only coming out at night, and was completely shy. At the 2 week mark he has turned into a spicy teddybear! He's gaining weight (woohoo!) and starting to show a pretty feisty and ADORABLE side to his personality. We're already in love ❤️

No Idea what this is. It's at the foot of our deck where we have buddleia, verbascum, lilac and other flowering shrubs. I used the plant net app and it says Chestnut, which seems wild. But its only 35% confident. TIA!
