Finally spayed! Interesting findings!

Cynthia had been in my shelter’s system since May as a trapped feral, and when her previous foster could no longer care for her after a month I stepped in. She had fungal and bacterial URIs and has been on multiple medications in the meanwhile. She hadn’t been healthy enough to be spayed until her checkup last week, when they had finally scheduled her!

The thing is that she stopped showing signs of heat around July-August. I just thought that maybe it was more subtle than usual. Then a few days ago she had started eating clay litter. I had to monitor her whenever she went to use the box so she wouldn’t start eating more. Her appetite decreased and she started having trouble breathing the night before the appointment.

I dropped her off and did my best to distract myself, but I still got sent into a panic when she wasn’t awake when I was told to come an hour after the normal pickup time. She did wake up, she just REALLY liked the free, uninterrupted and chemically induced nap. While I was waiting, one of the vet techs told me that they had scheduled her at a great time. When they went to remove everything, they only found half of one of her ovaries/tubes, and maybe some sections of uterus. What was there had started to fill with fluid, the precursor to pyometra. The pyometra would explain why she started to eat the litter; she was seeking whatever nutrients the clay could provide.

She’s home and healing now in her little space suit. She’s one tough cookie, and is so happy to sit in her window again. If she’s still with me in the spring, I’ll be foster failing when I have to move out of state. She’s a real fighter, and I’m so glad I could be here to support her through it.

It’s Just Him

I’ve been hanging onto this little one for a while. His sisters got adopted quickly (longhair went first as she had so many adoption apps, and the shorthair sister was adopted by another family interested in the longhair but more than willing to compromise once they met the shorthair) and now he gets to hang out with my grown boys.

It’s not his fault. My local shelter had been under quarantine for a few weeks due to panleuk, and they significantly raised the adoption prices. At the moment he would be $150 based on age alone. He’s a very sweet baby, and loves to meow even though his voice isn’t the strongest. Playful, curious, cuddly, and great with my boys (they also love babies). I’m hoping once his adoption price goes down (once hes 3mos) someone will have interest in him.

I think it’d also help if they met him, and saw how much he loves to be held and kissed. He’d be great for a solo cat that may need a companion, or even on his own. I know he’d make somebody very happy, they just haven’t found him yet.

My new babies!!

I posted on r/cats abt how I was taking this trio in recently and didn’t get a whole lotta response so I’m choosing to share with yall instead. These three were bestowed upon me after my husbands coworker (employee? subordinate? like that) heard i was ‘the cat lady’ and requested help with kittens. His grown and unfixed cats decided this would be the year for their first litter.

The problem? They’re biological siblings, making these three inbred. I think that’s why they came out so precious, as this guy does have some very pretty cats.

The adults are still being taken care of (and fixed, now that mom’s been separated from the kiddos) so now they are my responsibility. I do public intake for my local shelter, so they’ll get vet care and proper supplies while I give them the space to socialize. Their human grandpa was kind enough to provide a few necessary supplies, including their chosen litter box.

So in order, meet Larry (boy), Curly and Momo (girls). If it was two boys and a girl they would have been named after the Lannister kids lol. They are fairly spicy at six weeks, but Curly is warming up to me as the most outgoing of her siblings. With how beautiful these babies are, I’m sure they’ll go quick if I don’t foster fail one of them myself.

Meet Cynthia!

Cynthia is my current foster cat. She’s a year and some change old, currently on the mend from calicivirus after also fighting off a fungal respiratory infection. She’s an absolute doll, and loves to sleep in windowsills. She also chirps when being pet and enjoys a good cuddle. Very gentle and good with other cats. As much as I want her to be a foster fail, I believe she’s going to be someone’s soul cat.
