Exported PDF has mysterious little crosses in it

What are these little crosses that are being inserted into my PDF? All the boxes for guides, bleeds, etc are not checked. I tried exporting as High Quality Print, etc. I can't find a way to get rid of them.

There are also L-shaped marks at the top. I haven't seen any at the bottom, but I think they're landing on black areas in an image.

External drive is dying

I have an external drive I've been using for several years and, unfortunately, I don't have backed up. Today it's decided it won't let me do anything I want to do with the files saved on it. It keeps disconnecting while I'm trying to use it (and only tells me so after I've waited five-ten minutes for it to do something, such as drag a file onto the hard drive). I've tried the following:

*Plugged it straight into the Mac rather than the hub.

*Switched to a different cable.

*Ran First Aid on it in Disk Utility. (It said it had successfully repaired something, but it's still not letting me copy a single file off the drive onto my hard drive.)

I think it's time to buy a new drive. But how can I rescue the files off the drive to move to another drive (or a cloud service)?

I have a MacBook Air M2. I had been putting off Mac OS updates for some time, but recently I updated. Currently I have Tahoe 26.4. (I don't recall what version I had before, but it was a fairly old OS)

I'm a podcaster and record online calls from various platforms, mostly Zoom (the Zoom app) or Google Meet in either Firefox or Safari. Since upgrading the OS, I can't record audio from Google Meet calls anymore. I had been considering it a problem with Audio Hijack 4, and I've been corresponding with the maker about it, but just now I tried the Mac's Shift-Command-5 method of recording, and the same thing happened. (After several incidents where I was about to record a podcast and ran into this problem, I've been testing it by attempting to record a Google Meet test call.) It happens with both Firefox and Safari.

I can still record from Zoom with no problem. I'm assuming I can still record from Teams as well; I'm going to try it for a podcast tomorrow. (Can't find a way to do a test call with the Teams app.)

It seems as though the OS update has left me unable to record an online call from any browser with any recording software. (I have been able to get it to record from YouTube.)
