I Grew This!!!

I was bitten by the gardening bug last summer and my first year was filled with lessons and a few tomatoes. Spent all winter reading and watching all I could about growing tomatoes and, for the first time in my life, I could not wait for summer.

Grew these tomatoes from seed indoors, transplanted to my high rise balcony, fought the weather and high winds on a balcony at 200ft, and here's my result!

I am so excited... grew the tomatoes, grew the basil and enjoyed this amazing salad.

Jamaican Scotch Bonnet or Shroom?

First time growing peppers from seed... indoors. Is this the real deal or did I get shroomed? Yes, it's on my Pink Berkeley Tie Dye. 😊

My First Heirloom Tomato Harvest

My first homegrown heirloom tomato... ever! Not perfect as it has BER, but hope the rest are good. This is Ananas Noire and I'm so excited for the rest.

How do I know it ready to eat?

Basil seedling dying

Hi all!

I've successfully grown basil from seed(pics 2 &3) and have also had challenges with it. The first pic are a few seeds I started in solo cups, but I'm not sure why they suddenly dried out and look like they are dying. That eventually happened to my larger basil plants.

Could this be caused by fertilizer? I think I used the rest of whatever fertilizer water I had used for my pepper plants. With the older plants, I think I did the occasional squirt of fish emulsion.

What's the secret for basil and other herbs; fertilizer or not? I have more basil I've started that are doing okay - just want to make sure I don't mess them up. Is there a preferred soil blend for basil?

Thanks.

My backup seedlings are fruiting!

My first year growing from seed (I've said this so many times 🤣) and my seedlings did better than I expected. I transplanted most seedlings 2-3 weeks and kept a few extras(gave several away) in case the transplants failed. I noticed a fruit on Sun Sugar over a week ago and then another fruit last week. It's so exciting at they are still in their Vego jumbo seedling tray which is probably about a pint capacity(2.5"x 4" deep).

Black cherry is already flowering; I'll see if that fruits. I'm tempted to repot Sun Sugar in 1 gallon container or maybe even toss a few together in a 3 gallon pot.

This is so exciting; only you guys would understand. 🥰🤣

Mulch Options for container garden

Looking for better options this year for my balcony garden. I have some MG mulch left over from last year, but considering pine shavings or straw. I'm on a balcony and concerned about wind, but I think the flake and straw mulches stay put when wet.

What do you guys suggest for a city balcony that gets a fair share of wind.

Protect balcony garden from wind - will this work?

I'm gardening from a highrise balcony(200ft) and need something to protect my plants from these crazy winds we get. Looking for some feedback on this product - I need something to prevent my plants from being knocked over without blocking the plants from the sun and breeze they need. Maybe I'm overthinking this... what do you guy think?

What are balcony/patio gardeners using?
