Materials: Sterling silver, keum boo, colored sapphire cabs.
This project was tricky in that my client wanted a pendant attached to a chunkier chain in this way but also wanted it to detach and be strung onto her own thin gold chain. The hooks look scary but they’re as tight as they can be. I tumbled the necklace in steel shot for over 24 hours to work harden and have been playing around with it for a few days to make sure things are snapping off and on. I like the idea of convertible pieces but for future projects I want to design a latch component. It will just take a bit of time to come up with a design I like. 🙂
The rings that have gemstones are set with two colored sapphires (yellow and a blue-violet) and a rough diamond.
So, I do want to enamel this piece, but the form is done. This project incorporated raising, chasing, and fabrication. It was challenging, but I had so much fun. I’m now making a ceramic base for the cup to sit into. Once that’s done, I’ll share the whole look in case folks are interested! This is a goblet but it’s more of a sculpture that could function if you wanted it to. Especially after it’s enameled.

I’m learning how to sink and raise. This is my first sinking project - that’s how the general form was made. I’ve also begun experimenting with chasing and repoussé so I thought I’d bring that in to give the form some character. The little legs and the hair are what’s coming out of that process. I’m loving these techniques. And i really appreciate how differently one has to navigate time - these processes are so labor intensive you just can’t expect to be done in a day. I stopped keeping track a while ago and just try to get into a flow state. No social media (until now, after the studio day is done lol), no googling, no politics of any sort, no AI, just some tools, some fragrant pitch, and an aching hand.
