Clintonville's Original Porch Pirates™

Festy the cat was chattering at the front door this morning. Found these goobers engulfed in yesterday's dog food delivery. Yeah, should have brought it in. Festy hangs out on the porch with them, so she is no help at all.

Just Mr. Stumpers

We took another break for the feeder. I took the trash out this morning, and Stumpers was tweeting at me from the tree. So I gave in and filled it again.

Last seen in the sink, Mr. P out jogging here

He gets to be loose-pig or desk-pig quite a bit. Pigs can move. Lift and run. He's checking out if he can get under the sofa. The footrest was down, so no luck.

Yikes. Elvis is looking TERRIBLE

I think this is Elvis, son of Stumpers, sporting the molt look. Does he have no shame? I wonder if birds ever get the mange, and lose all their feathers?

Purdy Purp. House Finch

s. cville. they are sort of an undervalued purdy burd. they seem to do ok with the sparrows, but we have once again taken down the feeder due to a NEW crop of danger baby sparrows. they mob the feeder and attack each other. bad ones.

two turtle doves...

Ok, I know they are not turtle doves. what even is a turtle dove? A nonchalant appearance from the lower deck. S. Cville.

Harbinger of Bun

Walking back after my morning exercise attempt in S. Clintonville. This happens on the way back some days. In the alley, a bun is sitting there; I say hi, then it escorts me up the alley. A harbinger, herald, portent? Very sweet. Or is it? I know; he has nowhere to go. But he does, despite all the barricade fences (could have kept the Huns out [what are these people doing in their backyards that needs to remain hidden?]) and garages. Plenty of holes and gaps. I'm sticking with Harbinger of Bun as the reason. Always have a good day after this.

The return of the feeder, and Mr. Stumpers

He showed up about 20 minutes after I refilled the feeder after the week break. He's chill, no crestview on Crestview. S. Clintonville. The baby sparrows are less of a problem than they were before the weeklong takedown. They seemed to figure out there are other places to get food than this one feeder.

Where do you put the pigs on cage cleaning day?

Ours have always gone in the sink. If they relieve themselves, right down the drain. PS: on the side without the garbage disposal.

S. Cville - Bevy of Bluebirds in the Pre-Storm, Nov. 10, '25

Our feeder is down for a week or two to discourage the swarm of terrible baby sparrows who monopolized the feeder. In the meantime, last Nov. 10, right before a snowstorm, a bevy (4?) of bluebirds passed through and stopped at the feeder. We have seen them before in the neighbor's yard but not often. And S. Cville - South Clintonville. Not South Crooksville. That's not even a thing.

S Cville - Poor molting thing looking like a flying lizard

Lookit those ear-holes. This is one of Stumpers' offspring. He had a few stray head feathers sticking out a few weeks ago. All of a sudden, he's nearly bald. I was thinking about wigs for birds after recently seeing the parrot wig trend.

Have de-seeded the feeder. The baby sparrows, a gang of 5, have terrorized the feeder, and everyone else is sick of it. So a week without seeds will (hopefully) get them to seek food elsewhere and stop being such jack-asses.

S Cville. Robbin the Feeder

I put grapes out on the lower deck here and that seems to make the robins happy. Still, gotta get some seed.

Roadside Dozing Duck - Walhalla Ravine

Reminds me of that bit in Pee Wee's Big Adventure: he's hitchhiking and can't get a ride and falls asleep in the road.

S. Cville. A moist Mr. Stumpers asks baby sparrows to KINDLY STEP ASIDE

The baby sparrows took about 2 days to learn to be a nuisance at the feeder.

S. Cville. He does the sploot, gawk, and neb.

He's been working on a local utility pole. Stops by to get a snack to build back up his stamina. Then back to the pole. Neb: An ancient Germanic and Old English term meaning to peck or pinch with a bird's beak or snout.
