Help with rats

Hi all,

I'm from the UK, and I have a rat issue. I'm looking for some advice here.

I'll try and be as short as possible, basically we brought our house and there was evidence of rats in the loft. A specialist was brought in by us and he identified the drainage as the access point as he couldn't find any other Access points around or in our home.

That was sorted and everything was fine until I heard them again. Got the guy out laid bait after 3 weeks confirmed still there. So we had a rat drainage specialist come he was brilliant and found the neighbours pipe was causing access, they had a rat wall installed on their pipe sorted. The pest guy came back yesterday and confirmed the bait hasn't been touched at all, it's been there nearly 4 weeks. He advised for it to stay there and if we have any future issues he can check it and know if they've been in the loft.

Last night and this morning I heard a rat under the floorboards of the first floor under the 1st and 2nd bedroom. I had heard one before under the floor which was the reason for calling the pest guy out again. I had assumed they had just got under the floor from the loft but they haven't been in the loft at all as the bait is untouched whereas previously it's been eaten.

I'm going mad with trying to figure out where the little turds are getting in. Or if it's just a case it's got stuck.

Any advice would be great.

Finding somewhere to rent

Hi all,

I have posted a couple of times here but wanted to get some more advice.

Those who moved from England to Scotland how did you find somewhere to rent? I've read a few things that have said the rental market is very competitive and you have to view houses before you can rent them, so how did you go through that process?

Were you able to virtually look at houses or did you have to visit in person to view and how easy was the process and were there any things you can give tips on?

I'm trying to understand the process and work out a plan and it'd be so helpful to get some input from those who have done it.

Home working

Hi all,

My wife and I plan to move to Scotland in the next few years and I have posted previously, but I was wondering, for those who live and work here, what is home working like?

I work currently for my local council and would be looking to go into a similar role in adult social care. Is home working encouraged/common? I also have ADHD so office working is very difficult for me. What are Scottish employers like with that also? Is there a good understanding of neurodiversity?

I'm aware that's a very big question, I just wanted to try and get a general idea.

Thank you.

How did you do it?

Hi all,

My wife and I will be moving to Scotland within the next few years, and I'm looking for advice for those who have moved to Scotland, needed to sell their home, buy a new one in Scotland and get new jobs.

Right now it seems so complicated and overwhelming and we want to get a solid plan in place for when the time comes. We are in a position where we can potentially sell our home and move in with family in england still whilst job and house hunting in Scotland. It wouldn't be ideal but we're aware we are lucky enough to have this option.

I'm looking for advice or any tips from people that have done it, did you get jobs, buy a house then move or did you rent in Scotland until you could buy?

Id appreciate genuine advice, it's both of ours first major move like this, we live in a small town, I was born and raised here but it feels very scary. I have ADHD which doesn't help the thought process as I often go straight to "too many big steps, I can't do this" so any help is massively appreciated.

Moving to Scotland

Hi all,

So me and my wife are wanting to relocate to Scotland from england In a couple of years, Perth more specifically.

We absolutely love Scotland, the way of life is just so much nicer and people seem to be in less of a rush in life and the country is just beautiful.

I currently work in adult social care and my wife is in the NHS in mental health. I just wanted an idea of if those industries in Scotland were easy to move into or is there anything we should consider that we wouldn't know as we don't live there?

We're both neurodiverse and I've read a lot about how Scotland really values neurodiversity especially in the work place, is this a good description? Again just due to lack of lived experience in this.

We're really excited but we want to be as prepared as we possibly can. We'll also be buying a home too.

Any advice or tips would be really appreciated.

What is this?

Hi all,

So I found this on Whitby beach today. Any idea what this could be? We think it's bone but Google isn't being massively helpful.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

NHS new victoria hospital stopping masculinising surgery.

Hi all I've just had a letter that says the new victoria will be stopping masculinising surgery from Dec 1st this year.

I'm not sure what this means for a lot of folks. It says referrals will still remain on the waiting list but it can't advise on the impact it will have on wait times.

Just wanted to make people aware.

Selling and buying

Hi all,

So we were first time buyers when we brought our home but we are now thinking about selling and buying a new bigger home (life happened and we need more space)

We are not in any sort of rush and understand the situation with higher interest rates ect.

We got our now home for a really good price and significantly cheaper than homes have sold for recently so we're not concerned about selling.

What I'm interested in is the process of buying whilst selling. We've read you have to have an offer on your house before putting an offer on somewhere. Which makes sense, I guess the process of trying to sell whilst buying seems very stressful and potentially being in a chain, as I've read a lot of horror stories.

So realistically what's the process, are there any things we should be mindful of? Anything previous FTB's found when they were no longer FTB. I'm aware of stamp duty.
