Machine Eating Tape Troubleshoot

Hi All,

I’m wondering if someone can give me a heads up on what might be going on here. I’ve taken two of these portable units and mucked them all up to achieve a really crude sound on sound effect. My issue is that my left hand play deck (the one doing the recording, and not the playing) keeps eating the tape at the spot I’ve circled below.

I feel pretty confident in opening it up and fussing around I just am not sure what the fix might be here. I have video of what happens as well if that’s at all helpful.

Hi there,

First time poster, long time maker of strange noises.

I have a really weird circuit board I don’t get at all, not very complex just not very understandable to me.

I’ve attached some pics here just to see if anyone has mucked around with one of these before.

At this point I just wanna put a 3.5mm jack on it anyway so I’m not worried about that part but I’m wondering where the clock would be on this thing? If at all? lol

Cheers

Hey all,

I saw a video where a guy had taken the play head from an old Walkman and removed it so he could basically run the head over pre-cut lengths of tape for a “record scratching” effect.

I’m wondering if anyone here has done this or knows any thing about the process? I’m assuming I’m just removing the play head and re-soldering onto a 1/8” or 1/4” cable but curious if there’s anything in my blind spots that I’m not thinking about.

Cheers
