The latest additions to my ever-growing and increasingly worrying tape deck collection.

Technics M-260 cos you know.... everybody needs a 3 head recorder if you are going to make lots of mix tapes.

Sansui D-300M cos... looks great and I love the tape mechanism (after a complete dissasembly to clean it still love it... but not that much).

I've serviced and calibrated both and they sound great, Im not sure if I preffer the Sansui sound over the Technics, but Sansui transport is incredibly silent, and much easier to work on!!

I think the D-300M is the first tape deck I enjoyed servicing, its designed with mainteinance and repairs in mind 😃

Eating and destroying tapes

I bought this from my local thrift store and it works awesomely. The vinyl player is just amazing. The radio i can read instead of guessing where the station is at. Seeing the volume visualized, able to control the on-board volume instead of constantly having to change the master volume.

In short. Its perfect. Although the cassette deck was my biggest reason to get this thing. I have always wanted to use cassettes and make my own, I just really like the process of it as well as the fact that it is a old fashioned physical media.

The drives themselves are not working, the left one does work, but eventually you will hear the audio cut out and then realize that the tape got ate. The drive on right i dont think works at all, probably just somthing mechanical.

I want to get this working and able to be used with all of its built in features.

Does anyone have any good recommendations of where to start with this? YouTube walk-through would be great

Beocord 5000 help needed getting the mechanism back to working

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up two non-working Beocord 5000s (the 1980s 492x series) with the hope of restoring at least one of them.

I’ve started looking at them and one of them is doing something I’m not quite sure how to diagnose. When I plug it in, I get a knocking/clicking noise from inside the machine, but the cassette drawer doesn’t open or seem to move at all.

I’m assuming it could be something mechanical in the drawer/transport mechanism rather than an electronic fault, but I don't want to start forcing anything or taking it apart unnecessarily.

Has anyone worked on these before and knows what typically causes this kind of knocking when the machine is powered up? Is there a particular solenoid, gear, belt, or mechanism position I should check first?

I have the service manual and can take photos/video of the mechanism if that would help.

Thanks!

Shrieking cassette player/recorder

Not sure I’m in the correct place for this but I’ve been trying to get a GE Cassette recorder/player to work. I found this at goodwill for like 4 bucks and it was broken when I got it. I took it apart, tried cleaning bits that the internet said to clean and oiled the capstan. It’s still making the same noise.
I am pretty sure it’s the speaker because the noise doesn’t play when the volume is down. I know nothing though. Does anyone know what may be causing it? Is this something I can fix?

Hi all, my deck likely has a dirty play/record switch, I took this video of me using contact cleaner spray on it but I'm now paranoid I didn't use enough - do you think I should open it up and go again?
