Beocord 5000 help needed getting the mechanism back to working

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up two non-working Beocord 5000s (the 1980s 492x series) with the hope of restoring at least one of them.

I’ve started looking at them and one of them is doing something I’m not quite sure how to diagnose. When I plug it in, I get a knocking/clicking noise from inside the machine, but the cassette drawer doesn’t open or seem to move at all.

I’m assuming it could be something mechanical in the drawer/transport mechanism rather than an electronic fault, but I don't want to start forcing anything or taking it apart unnecessarily.

Has anyone worked on these before and knows what typically causes this kind of knocking when the machine is powered up? Is there a particular solenoid, gear, belt, or mechanism position I should check first?

I have the service manual and can take photos/video of the mechanism if that would help.

Thanks!

Technics M7 cassette deck weird chirping/gurgling noise on left channel only when motor is running?

I've got a Technics M7 cassette deck that's driving me a little crazy.

The left channel has this strange chirping/gurgling noise, but only while the transport motor is running. As soon as the motor stops, the noise disappears completely. Audio otherwise works, but the noise is very noticeable.

One thing I can rule out is the record/playback sliding switch. I've already fully disassembled it, deep cleaned all the contacts, and reassembled it, so I'm pretty confident that's not the culprit.

Has anyone run into something like this before? Could it be motor interference getting into the audio path, a grounding issue, failing capacitors, or something else? I'm just looking for ideas on where to start probing next before I go replacing parts at random.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

My fire rescue and 6000 is almost done with it's restoration!

I have to say this NAD unit sounds beautiful, it is delightful to work on, and visually stuns as well! Sadly the left vu is dead but whatever.

Is this Vu meter dead?

Insane amount of crust on both, but the right one works somehow

Dual CS626 arm raising and start stop problems

I cant seem to figure out why these don't work, I replaced all caps already, reseated the machine parts, and relubed most things.

I’ve been working on restoring a Saba 360 / Braun PC S 5 turntable, and it’s now almost fully serviced and running well overall. Mechanically it’s in great shape, and I’ve gone through the contacts and wiring multiple times, cleaning and checking everything thoroughly with a meter.

However, there’s one issue I can’t pin down: the right channel has a loud buzz that comes and goes. Strangely, when I turn the motor on, the channel sometimes comes back to normal, but not consistently. I can’t find a clear pattern, and it’s making troubleshooting pretty frustrating.

Given that all the obvious points and contacts, wiring continuity, grounding seem to check out, I’m wondering if anyone familiar with these tables has run into something similar. Could this be related to internal grounding behavior, the muting circuit, or something tied to the motor itself?

Would really appreciate any insight or direction before I start tearing deeper into it.
