Poll - what would convince you to come back?

Looking at recent sales figures, it's clear that a good number of players have chosen to pause their support of the game. I'm interested in what would motivate us into returning (whether that means from a complete boycott or from having reduced your usual activity or spending), because the answers are obviously going to be different depending on who you ask. So! Anonymous poll linked above, structured more for simplicity than all exhaustive nuances.

Obligatory disclaimer that results are not reflective of the whole community, only of those that are here to see the poll while it's active right now, and that results could be manipulated but I hope it won't be because it's just a little guy

New laptop has unstable wifi connection

I am losing my mind. This brand new laptop is the only device on our network that has this issue. My old laptop that sat in the exact same desk location didn't have this issue. The link speed is stuck between 14, 72, or 144 mbps. Speedtests return anywhere from 25-100 mbps and frequently cuts off while we have 1 gbps service. Occasionally it'll spike above 1000 mbps (link speed and speedtest), but it never lasts. On ethernet I get a consistent 1000 mbps link speed (but it only speedtests for around 700 mbps), but I can't use ethernet for this device all the time.

I have:

  • uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers and cross referenced the latest edition on the Intel website, 3 times
  • switched off any whiff of power saving both in general and advanced settings
  • disabled 2.4 ghz to force it on 5 or 6 ghz
  • ran a bunch of cmd/powershell commands including but not limited to

netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=enabled

netsh int tcp set global timestamps=disabled

control powercfg.cpl,,1

Disable-NetAdapterLso -Name "*"

  • called Microcenter tech support who informed me that my Wifi 7 laptop paired with my Wifi 7 Deco system SHOULD be as simple as plug and play without having to make so many settings tweaks, and there's most likely something wrong with the wifi card internally, and I should just swap the laptop out for a new one while I'm still in my return period

Exchanging the laptop is my last resort since I'd rather not make the one-way hour long drive to end up with another laptop that may or may not have the same issue. I don't know haha please help. Thank you!

I am losing my mind, and I'm hoping to figure out a solution from settings/software before throwing my hands and returning this to Microcenter.

wifi connection is slow and unstable on new laptop only

I have a 2025 Asus ROG Strix G16 purchased 3 days ago. It has an Intel BE200 wifi card, all drivers updated (and uninstalled and reupdated too!).

We are using a Deco wifi7 mesh system and 1 gbps internet speed. Up until this Asus, including the old laptop that sat in its same exact location, all devices had no issue maxing out the 1 gbps or at the very least reaching 900+ mbps.

The Asus is stuck around 15-50 mbps with horrible consistency. On ethernet, it's able to hit that 900+ mbps fine, but the fact that something must be broken about its wifi configurations is driving me craaazyyy. please help

Update: I got a real plumber

To summarize my debacle from my last post, I had a supposedly easy job to replace two shut-off valves (the ones up top) that wouldn't turn water off all the way, covered under complimentary home warranty (haha). Timeline is as follows:

5/16: (Roughly from memory) Young Man from Generic Plumbing Co. shows up at around 1:30pm. This should be pretty quick, he says. He later goes to Home Depot to pick up some Sharkbites, comes back, is by the kitchen sink for a few more hours. Should be almost done, he says. HE CUTS HIMSELF. We get him a bunch of bandaids. He calls us over and asks us to check the valves as he turns the water back on in the garage. Both connections start leaking. They won't stop leaking. He makes a call to his manager, since it's now already like 5pm. Comes back and says it has something to do with our pex being old. Says he'll have to cap it off. Turns the water main back off. Caps off the pipes. Water main goes back on. THE CAPS ARE LEAKING. He says he'll have to smash a hole into the drywall to properly cap them off. Ok, he does that (+another Home Depot trip), he leaves. It's like 8pm. He says they'll be back Monday first thing. We now have no kitchen sink water.

5/18: I get a call from him. He says the Generic Plumbing Co. office has to talk to the Home Warranty for approvals. I'm like ok, but at some point I get fed up and call his manager. I try to be understanding, young man is learning, everyone has to start somewhere, but I would really like to have my kitchen water back! Manager is affable and pledges to be the one that comes out next time.

5/19: I call Manager for an update. Manager doesn't pick up my call and he never responds to my text. I get fed up again and call Home Warranty directly for further updates. Home Warranty says GENERIC PLUMBING CO. IS NO LONGER WORKING WITH THEM. They say they will dispatch an emergency service call.

5/20: Seasoned Man from Goodguy Plumbing Co. shows up and is like... yeah..... the last guy left you with a disaster. Seasoned man has to confirm coverage with Home Warranty and get lab results from our drywall hole in case of mold/asbestos, because this is now a Bigger Job. Their next availability is the following Tuesday after Memorial Day. We now have no kitchen water from 5/16-5/26.

5/26: Seasoned Man unfucks the main cold/hot water lines to our kitchen sink. It took less than an hour. Praise be!

Unfortunately, the handiwork/sharkbites from Young Man are still present for the connections to our reverse osmosis filter and dishwasher. YOUNG MAN WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO TOUCH THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. At this point I am absolutely refusing to accept any remaining workmanship from Young Man (bless his heart, hope he's doing better/learning from this). I harass Home Warranty multiple times a week for several weeks about my coverage. Eventually they give in and authorize the remaining work.

6/12: Seasoned Man comes back and unfucks the rest of the valves. There are now no more sharkbites. Saga is over - pending drywall and escutcheon finishes but more importantly I'm no longer stressing out over a liability under my kitchen sink. Personally, I think his work looks gorgeous, but maybe you can be the judge of that.

Moral of the story: be reaaaaallly vigilant about your Home Warranty technicians. You can get a Seasoned Man, or you can get a Young Man who apparently doesn't know you shouldn't expand pex b (which is something I didn't know either, BUT I DON'T CALL MYSELF A PLUMBER).

Plumber said angle stop replacement was gonna take 30 minutes. He's been here for 4 hours

Our angle stops in the kitchen sink wouldn't turn shut off water all the way, so we were having them replaced. Thought it was gonna be a quick an easy job. 4 hours later, there's now leaking where there wasn't leaking before. 🫠 Plumber mentioned it had to do with trying to connect new pex a extender to really really old (20 year old?) pex b(?). Gonna cap it off for today and come back to resume work on Monday, probably need to take out some of the wall to replace a chunk of the piping inside. How often does this happen

Garage GFCI overload

Hi! I have a GFCI outlet in my garage that trips every day. The home is covered by a complimentary home warranty (build is 20 years old, we recently moved in), so they sent over an electrician to diagnose the issue. We found out the GFCI covers 3 outside outlets, 3 other outlets within the garage, and the doorbell downstream, so every time it trips, it takes out all of those with it. The electrician called it an overload and told us a GFCI is only supposed to protect 3 outlets. I accepted at that time that this would not be covered under our policy.

Then I did some reading that made me question whether this should actually be considered an overload. Aside from the doorbell, there are no devices that have or have ever been plugged into any of these outlets since we moved in. I found no literature or discussion online that supported the claim that a GFCI should protect a maximum of 3 outlets (as opposed to a maximum amperage?) or be considered overloaded. None of my neighbors with the same build and floorplan have this issue.

Am I tilting at windmills here? Would I be wasting everybody's time to ask the home warranty for a second electrician's opinion, or do I have some chance at an appeal? Thanks!

edit: Outdoor outlets are all covered and not near water sources!
