Rheem (non) service!
Our Rheem heat pump (installed 2019) stopped working recently. We shut it off and came back a couple weeks later to fix it.
Nest G3 showed Y1 error E103 ("an overcurrent, short, or power issue on the Y1 (cooling) wire, often caused by a failing outdoor AC contactor")
Local service came, said he fixed, left. An hour later, air was still hot. I called company. Service guy said that if it has been off a while, it will take a while to cool, one degree per hour. An hour later, it had gone from 84.5 to 85.5, at 3 hours, 88F. Turned it off.
Called for service guy to return. Turned it back on and Y1, E103 error was back and it wouldn't run at all.
Third visit, I told him about the Y1, E103 info for the third time. After climbing in the attic, he determined that the main board and contactor was dead and had to be ordered. ($742)
Some day, we will have AC again. 93F today.
Meanwhile, I asked him to replace the Nest G3 with the old stat. (I'm pretty disgusted with the Nest. It doesn't like me, reprogrammed itself while we were away and we came back to a $300 electric bill. Done with it.) He said the old one had a stripped screw in the base plate and he couldn't put it back. He put the nest back, but said it wouldn't do heat unless we used WIFI. We don't have full time WIFI at this location except when we bring our gateway here.
Our old stat was a "Staystat 540". I can get a new plate(or fix the old one with solder and a jumper wire) or get something else. I just want to be able to manually set it and not screw with modern "improvements". At this point, I'd just as soon wire up an old round Honeywell mercury relic and turn the dial. (Do they make those that work with a cool/heat heat pump model?)
