Did they make any light changes with the Butler Rd bridge closure?

Closing that bridge has made an already bad situation much worse. Did the SCDOT or Mauldin PD not think to change any traffic light timings? Bridges Rd still has the terrible holds and, of course for Bridgeway fireworks, it’s beyond choked up.

How to turn people away from the hobby

Submitted a request for repeater access while I’m at the beach with kids. The repeater is closed, and the page has a laundry list of requirements and commentary on people apparently too dumb to operate a radio. It’s in a tourist area so I assume he’s had to deal with a lot of idiots so I’ll give him some slack. I was promptly denied and received the following message:

“DENIED ! Hello, PLEASE go back and READ the complete Repeater description and resubmit your request ! In the repeaters description it clearly states the following! I require you provide the names and unit numbers you have assigned anyone you approve to use your FCC CALL SIGN. You have indicated family members on you call sign. You may pick your own series of unit numbers to use with your call sign, and the other family members will have to identify themselves with such when using the repeater. PLEASE resubmit your request for repeater use, and included this information.”

This is the first time I’ve been denied, and that’s fine, but this response just entirely turns me off. I won’t be submitting a new request. This guy can sod off. This is a good way of dissuading people from getting into GMRS.

Edit: replace the word “hobby” with “using a GMRS repeater for any reason at all” if the former offends you.

Edit for clarification: no, I’m not saying I want to skirt the rules. I AM saying don’t be a gatekeeping jerk.

Lynch says machines were rigged

I watched the video. Whoever is tapping the screen is doing so differently when choosing one candidate or the other in order to feign a technical glitch. By crybaby election denier standards, even this is poorly executed.

I don’t have X so I can’t see the replies but I hope someone has pointed out the fakery.

Lemonade stand!

This might skate close to the no selling rule, but I respect this kid’s hustle, and wanted to see if he could get some more visibility.

Corner of Riddle Road and Griffin Road in the Pine Brook Forest neighborhood. He is selling lemonade for $1, looking to earn some money for new bike rims. I was headed out to the southern connector and stopped. Nice kid! Takes cashapp and cash.

Not sufficiently “AI forward.”

I’ve been in the field for 10+ years, maybe 15+ depending on how you count it. Doctorate in data analytics. Worked with a lot of industries in a lot of different capacities. Laid off from a government contract and then fired after an ADA request over the course of six months. (That last one is a long story but I’ve got an attorney. Not discussing that here.)

Anyway, I’ve been interviewing and noticed that things go great until I’m asked about AI and I explain how I am skeptical but using where I find appropriate. I have a lot of concerns about AI. But I don’t air that out. I simply explain that it’s an emerging technology and I am not the sort of person to vibe code my way through a data pipeline. They are hiring for my expertise, not my prompt ability.

In the last 3 scenarios, I’ve been rolling along just fine and gotten far into the process, then I’m honest about AI and I’m blacklisted. And it’s not even being negative about it. I’m just not bubbly and effusive about how Claude will save my life. In one case I got specific feedback about not being sufficiently “ai forward.” In the others, things changed immediately after the brief AI discussion.

There are probably openings out there with companies that want to hire someone who doesn’t rely on AI, but be careful.

I was fired from a management role shortly after requesting an accommodation for disability. My remote manager wanted me in the office 3 days a week and I was asking for some discretion on which days. My performance and those of my direct reports were not affected. Less than a month after putting in the request, and without a required discussion about the accommodation, I was fired. The reason given was “visibility.”

I have filed with the EEOC. Had to file twice because I never could get an appointment the first time, and it timed out.

Multiple attorneys have turned down my case. I thought this was a pretty clear case of discrimination. The only two that have wanted to talk further either wanted $400 for a discussion (no word on whether that would turn into a case) or $4000 flat.

What am I missing? Is the burden of proof too big here? It’s pretty simple: asked for disability accommodation, got fired, no paper trail. Unless I’m a a complete moron that is an open-and-shut case. Why are attorneys turning me down?

Edit: I always came into the office for meetings and events that I scheduled or was a part of. My doctor provided all necessary documentation.
