Should I focus on the CPA exams to break into public accounting?

I’m CPA eligible but have had a really hard time getting into public accounting. I have a degree from an online school, and I’m getting passed over for pretty much every public accounting application I submit.

Right now I’m working as a $23/hr junior accountant on contract through Robert Half. I’m getting some experience, but I’m not sure what my best next move is.

Would taking the time to pass the CPA exams significantly improve my chances of getting into public accounting, or should I focus more on building experience first?

For those who work in public accounting, what would you do in my position? Is the online degree a major disadvantage, and would passing the exams help overcome that?

EA vs CPA exam to improve chances of getting a tax job?

I’m 26, recently finished my Master’s in Accounting through an online university, and have been working as a junior accountant through a contract since the beginning of the year. I don’t have much direct tax experience or access to traditional recruiting/networking.
My goal is to get a tax job for the upcoming tax season. I know I realistically won’t be able to pass all four CPA exams before tax-season hiring starts.
Would passing the EA exam before then help me more with getting a tax job, or would passing one section of the CPA exam be more valuable?
If you were in my position, what would you do over the next few months to maximize your chances of getting hired in tax?

D558 Pass-Through Taxation – Any advice?

I’m starting D558 (Pass-Through Taxation), and it’s my last class in the WGU MAcc Taxation program. I have to finish by the end of the month, but I’m having a hard time finding information since it’s such a new course.

For anyone who’s taken it recently, what helped you pass?
