New to WGU Accounting? Do NOT sleep on the Discord study group

Posting this again because the sub has grown a lot, and I think a lot of newer students may not be aware of this incredible resource!

If you are starting soon, newly enrolled, stuck on a class, planning out acceleration, comparing the bachelor’s and master’s programs, thinking about public accounting, industry, internships, CPA, or just trying to figure out whether your pace is normal, the WGU Accounting Study Group Discord is worth joining.

The biggest benefit is that it feels like having other students and grads around in real time. You can ask quick questions, search old conversations, compare notes with people in the same classes, and get perspective from people who already finished what you are working through.

To be clear, this is not a place to share answers or violate WGU policies. It is for legitimate study support, program advice, career discussion, accountability, and community.

If you're already in the server, feel free to comment with how it has helped you so newer students know what to expect.

Happy studying!

D217 PA Before Reading Content

Haven't read any material or watched any videos yet. 0 Accounting or IT experience.

This felt very similar to the Supply Chain PA, where many answers were common sense, and others of course required knowledge of the course material.

Don't let people's posts on here scare you. Def take the PA before starting the course

C237 Taxation if you are an Enrolled Agent

Just take it and get over and done with. It took me two days after opening it. Day one....I didn't feel like doing it. Day two....I looked at videos and then took the test. This class is nothing compared to an EA license, which they should have credited EA license holders as a pass but what do I know, and reviewing just let's you know basic material they will go over.

Intermediate Acc I OA 2 Passed!

I finally passed IA 1, and honestly, a pass is a pass. I had failed OA2 once before, and one thing I realized is what makes the second OA tougher. Even though Cash & Receivables and Inventory carry a lot of weight, a large portion of the questions focus on Time Value of Money. Because of that, you really need a solid understanding of those last two sections to do well overall.

I felt like I answered more questions correctly this time, so moving forward, I’m going to spend more time really grinding the concepts and making sure I fully understand them.

This was way too close to failing for me.... like what got me with inventory is the fact that I didn't know what was affected when inventory was over or understated fully, like i should have.

Finally going back to school

Quick question as I’m attempting to finally finish my bachelor degree. I’ve already gotten credit for principals of financial and managerial accounting, but I took it years ago. Do you think I should retake it before I jump into intermediate?? Thanks in advance 🙏

D217 AIS - took the PA "cold" without touching the material.. how close am I to passing?

I am nearing the end of my term and my degree. I took this PA today completely cold without touching the material, and this was my score. How close does the OA align to the PA? Reading all other posts and comments about this class had me thinking one way but I thought a lot of the questions and answers made sense.

external resources for d102?

Hi, I’ve been stuck on D102 for almost 3 weeks now and I’m just not grasping the content. I’ve been at WGU since February 2026 and I’m already about 40% of the way through. But, D102 is the first accounting heavy course I enrolled in and I can already tell things are slowing down. I’ve always been more of a in person/hands on learner so this self paced thing is definitely challenging. My study methods so far have just included reading through the textbook, watching the embedded videos and taking a ridiculous amount of notes. I don’t enjoy reading through WGU’s textbooks and would really appreciate if someone could provide me some external resources / YouTube channels / or places I can do practice exams for accounting courses.

D101- Cost and Managerial Studying Tips

Hi everyone, I know this course has been discussed a million times lol but I really need help with studying. I am really not sure how to go about studying for this course, it is so much material to cover. I'm only on Unit 3- Process Costing. So far I'm using OneNote to take key notes and copy/paste module questions and answers to get a better understanding of what may be needed on the OA. But I'm still not really grasping it and the formulas are overwhelming. I also thought about only studying the module and unit tests and creating study guides from them. Can anyone share how they have been studying for this course or how they were able to finally pass the class?

Best laptop for program?

Hello everyone, wondering what sort of laptop I should get as I am looking to start school in September. Was planning on a MacBook, then after some research, realized that it’s not the most compatible with excel and other accounting specific programs? what does everyone use? thanks!

Just passed IA1 OA1, but... how do I still get some points off on the Excel portion no matter what!?

The PA was identical to the OA, so I knew exactly what to do to get 100% and yet... still some points off. This has happened to me on every Excel portion of the OAs I've taken so far. It's like they somehow always have some tiny thing graded differently on the OA.

Btw I'm aware this is crazy to complain about and that it obviously doesn't matter. I just wish I could see the detail on the high stakes report because I'll never know why there were points taken off despite doing everything exactly the same as on the PA and double-checking. 🤦‍♂️ Lowkey makes me feel crazy...

How quickly could I finish my degree?

Hi everyone,

I have my Associates degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences which is 60 credits. I hope to finish my bachelors degree in 1 year, or 1.5 if I have to. How quickly do you think I could realistically finish an accounting degree at wgu while working part time?

WGU Journey! GREAT INVESTMENT!

Hello all I received my confetti and officially graduated on 5/12/26. For context, I started in July 2025 and transferred in about 59 CUs (already having a degree somewhat close to business). During my time at WGU I was able to get an accounting internship at a small bookkeeping/accounting firm where I gained my first experience in accounting. I then was able to utilize my internship experience to interview for a government accounting offer and an offer in industry. Based on my situation, I accepted the position in industry where I would be working under a CPA who is the controller of the company that I believe I can learn a lot from starting 6/1/26. WGU made all of these things possible and I believe you can change your career with confidence through WGU!

My journey at Wgu

I started at wgu back in 6/25 and graduated 5/14/26, I actually chose IT management as my major but honestly just didn’t trust the job market with that industry. I had been working as a CNA for almost 10 years I started when I was 17 I’m 24 now. I hated my job it was stressful on my body and mind, working through the pandemic made me realize quickly I didn’t want to be In health care anymore. So as the years went by I was planning my exit, I had no plans of ever going to college until trump got in office sounds stupid but I needed to think about my future long term and didn’t think it was smart to continue life without a degree so I applied to wgu. Obviously after a couple classes in my initial major I made the switch very early on didn’t know anything about Accounting, as I went through the classes I didn’t take it super serious I was also in the process for getting a diagnosis for adhd. 5 months later after an official diagnosis and working through the courses I was having a hard time because I could do the work but did not understand it so I tried to switch my major again because I thought I wasn’t smart enough for a degree in accounting. After my major switched the next day I kid you not I asked them to switch it back and I’m so glad I did because that same month I applied to a pretty big firm in my state and got the internship. I still hadn’t taken any core accounting classes so wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. It was a super rocky internship I was constantly tested and reminded I have a lot of learn but I stuck it out and worked my butt off and got a return offer. I went from being a burnt out CNA no plans of school making shit money to an accountant in tax making more than I’ve ever made in my life currently getting ready to start prepping for the CPA and I couldn’t do it without WGU and this subreddit 💛 sorry for the possible typos and terrible grammar I just woke up but yes I took all of my core accounting classes while I did my internship and honestly didn’t do any of the intermediate accounting classes until literally two weeks ago 🫣

College Algebra

Hello, I am planning on starting WGU accounting (maybe finance, but right now I'm leaning accounting), in July or August. I am weak in math though, especially the more abstract math which has me concerned about the College Algebra course. I've also heard from other threads that the course is not very good from a teaching perspective, though that is heresay.

My question is should I try to get a certificate through Sophia/Study.com or enroll through the class and suck it up? Thanks?
