Mental breakdown over taking a CPA exam soon for the first time

I'm so stressed over trying to do everything at once. Between studying for FAR CPA exam via Becker, working at my full-time job, trying to keep a consistent sleep schedule, exercising every weekend to stop being obese which is causing health problems, and hardly having any spare time to relax. I'm afraid of failing the upcoming exam, even though it would be my first time taking one.

I might also be hearing things in my head. I could hear my parents and relatives yelling and berating me for not being good enough, wasting time and money, and whatever I did wrong was my own fault that I alone have to fix. They actually insult me occasionally for fun, but always said that they're just joking around and don't really mean any of that. Yet, I could hear them in my head, calling me a "mistake."

Should I focus on the CPA exams to break into public accounting?

I’m CPA eligible but have had a really hard time getting into public accounting. I have a degree from an online school, and I’m getting passed over for pretty much every public accounting application I submit.

Right now I’m working as a $23/hr junior accountant on contract through Robert Half. I’m getting some experience, but I’m not sure what my best next move is.

Would taking the time to pass the CPA exams significantly improve my chances of getting into public accounting, or should I focus more on building experience first?

For those who work in public accounting, what would you do in my position? Is the online degree a major disadvantage, and would passing the exams help overcome that?

1 week to go for FAR - wondering about TBS?

Hi guys,

So I have 7 days more to go until FAR on Aug 27th. I have done the notes, 3 readings and all the becker mcq's. I was wondering if I should do all the TBS in detail, or just do a few and go through the solutions and skill builder videos for the rest? One person at work barely did any and got 90 in FAR. Also I did very well on the sims in another exam section and lets just say the becker sims we not needed. So I am wondering if I should use the next 7 days for just more review with a glance at the sims or to do each sim in detail side by side with revision? Thanks!

Are these GASB/SEA topics still testable on FAR?

I’m using Becker as my main study material and Ninja for extra MCQs. I came across these questions in Ninja about GASB SEA Concept Statements, governmental reporting concepts, and the ACFR statistical section, but I can’t find these topics anywhere in Becker, I also asked NEWT.
Are these topics still testable on the current FAR exam, or are these older/outdated Ninja questions?
For anyone who has taken FAR recently, would you recommend actually learning these topics, or should I just skip them and focus on the governmental topics covered by Becker?

Wait for Results or Keep Studying in Case of Fail?

I took AUD on 8/14 and I am waiting for results on the 25th. I'm pretty sure I failed because of the TBS (Multiple Choice wasn't too bad). Should I just keep studying for AUD in case of a fail or just wait since the results are 5/6 days out from now? The next testing windows are September 7th and September 30th.

Drop out of well known macc to downgrade and have more focus on cpa?

I recently started a well-known MAcc program, but I’m realizing it’ll be very difficult to complete the CPA while here and I may have to extend my graduation.
My alternative is to go back home, complete an easier online MAcc at my undergrad school, and primarily focus on passing all 4 CPA exams before starting full-time.

I would go home right now and study all of fall completing far. And when the online MAcc starts I can delegate slightly more time to the cpa than the MAcc.

For context, my undergrad school isn’t a top accounting recruiting school, but I was still able to land Big 4 audit, Top 10 firm tax, and corporate accounting internships through it.

Would giving up the stronger MAcc name hurt my long-term opportunities, especially if I want to move into deal advisory/FDD? Or would having my CPA completed + my existing experience matter more at this point?

CPA + MBA from Zell Education — worth it?

I’m considering doing the CPA + MBA program with Zell Education after B.Com. Is it actually worth it, or would it be better to pursue CPA separately and do an MBA from another college?

Would love to hear from anyone who has taken this program or knows about it—especially regarding placements, ROI, and the value of the MBA + CPA combination.

Is Audit passable in 4 weeks?

Ive finished A1 and A2 while waiting for FAR results, then saw I failed FAR, so I took 2 weeks off to restudy FAR for my retake. After I do that retake in a few days I want to try to get AUD attempted before score release window end of September, but also thats a few weeks before I start working full time so to me it makes sense to grind one more exam attempt out with the limited time I have left this summer.

Is this timeframe advisable while studying full time? From my brief research it seems the heavier topics show up in A3-A6 so I was wondering if its possible to get a unit or 2 done a week and leave a bit of time at the end for cumulative review.

AUD Exam tips and advice?

Alright, I’ve been studying auditing for about a week now and although I have not been necessarily struggling, I have definitely not been as good as I’ve been on FAR or REG. Can anyone who took AUD give me like a comparison on how Becker questions are compared to the real exam?

Are the Becker sims comparable to the real sims? What may have tripped YOU on your exam that would help someone about taking the exam in the future? Any other bits of advice is greatly appreciated!

I’m just so math centered so doing all this conceptual bs has been messing with my confidence that on the MCQs I’m going like 70-80%

REG Tax Credits Question

I am currently finishing R2 but I find myself having the most trouble with the tax credit portion of R1. I was wondering what are the most important ones to focus on and know inside and out. Was also curious if people have found tax credits to be tested a decent amount or not.

Fear of forgetting what I’ve learned..

Hello! So from the title of the post, I always have the anxiety that I eventually will forget everything I’ve learnt through my CPA journey 😮‍💨

I passed 3/4 and waiting for the TCP results, worked in audit and now I work in FP&A for one year now, which I don’t usually use my CPA knowledge in.

Is this kind of fear normal? Should I keep reviewing my materials or it doesn’t matter ? Tell us if you have experience in this

What time to actually expect score releases?

Hi hi all, I'm awaiting my first score (FAR) and the aicpa website says it's supposed to be posted August 25th. Does that mean it's going to be available for me to see August 25th at 12:01am or do I have to wait until midday? It's my first score ever so I just wanted to know if I should stay up baha
