Edit— Thank you all for your sage advice and wisdom. I’m taking it all in and doing my research. Engaging with my plans more cautiously. Isn’t the reputation of the lake so powerful? She is surely indiscriminate.

I’m reading that 14’ kayaks are used for bigger bodies of water. But— smaller kayaks are made for choppier water. I don’t plan to be out in super choppy water or waves but the lake does constantly ripple. There’s also the matter of wakes from larger boats…so catching a few waves is possible. This will be my first kayak.

I’ve done some kayaking in larger lakes that produce waves but rented the kayak and don’t know anything about it. I don’t know if I would choose the same one anyway, as Lake Superior is its own beautiful beast.

I bet there are tons of Lake Superior kayakers here. What has been most successful for you?

I just spent 3 and a half hours at the grocery store. Decision paralysis, anxiety, forgetfulness. Dissociated into oblivion because it’s too overstimulating. I just got home and put everything away. I sat down on my phone and saw that it hasn’t even been an hour since I left for the store. I’m tweaking out. I get how/why it happens but it’s still like….how can this possibly be. Needed to tell someone immediately and now I have.

I wish doing simple things wasn’t so incredibly hard.
