sending my mesocricetus auratus to the void in 6 hours for being too smelly to live 💔

context: she has a bad uti that antibiotics didn’t help and it developed into a big lump that couldn’t be removed by the vets even if they tried and she’s in pain so it’s her time </3 she’s been given painkillers so she’s feeling okay and she still runs out for snacks and water like she doesn’t even know what’s going on.

trying to put a brave face on by bullying her on the internet so feel free to cyberbully her too before i send her off 💛

edit: she’s gone and no longer in pain now. be safe up there my sweet angel baby 🫶

workplace wants to know my religion

so where i’m from there’s no really rights to privacy, just laws against discrimination against someone’s religion. just find it kinda weird that HR is hounding me about this when I already put “other” in the original contract/info filling form when I joined 2 weeks ago. has anyone else ever had to declare they’re a hellenic polytheist in their workplace, or would you just make something up/put “pagan” or something else? just curious what others experiences have been like while navigating being a hellenic polytheistic in a very abrahamic society x

Celebrating Fors Fortuna!

june 24 is fors fortuna! an ancient roman festival honouring Lady Fortuna. unfortunately there is no known festival date specifically for Lady Tykhe, but I’ve decided to have a ceremony for her today anyway. the offerings include cake and grain as is traditional, and also libating honey during the ceremony. prayer was done after cleansing from miasma, hair tied back, sitting straight in front of the altar with palms up to the sky. (my altar is modest I know! closeted practice unfortunately)

the prayers I used are from hellenic polytheism: household worship by labrys, which is adapted from orphic hymn 71.

“I call on Lady Tyche,
to enter our lives with goodwill.
Come Tyche, I invite you, benevolent ruler, hear my prayer;
kind traveller of all roads, in wealthy estates,
the reigning Artemis, the renowned, born of Euvouleos'
blood, possessing undefeatable glory,
sepulchral, meandering, famed among men;
From You flows the diversity of mortal life,
for some, you provide a wealthy multitude of possessions,
and to others dread poverty, welling up as angry outrage in the soul.
Goddess, I plead for you to bring your goodwill,
filling our lives with well-being and wealthy gifts.
And I plead with You, O' Goddess, come with benevolence into our lives, bringing happiness and wealth.
O' Benevolent Goddess Tyche, foster good fortune and bring about the desired results. (Repeat 7 times)”

closing:
“we thank You and your attendant company
for being present at our solemn ceremony
and hearing our supplications.
We are grateful for the virtues
and the goods which you have offered us.
May friendship and harmony touch our hearts.
May the Gods and the Goddesses, the Heroes and Heroines,
May the Blessed Ancestors shower virtue
and healthy understanding in our minds.
May health forever dwell in our bodies.
May happiness and good fortune not ever leave this home.
May father Zeus always provide all that is good.”

then I proceed to invite lady Tykhe to partake in the offerings, thank her for her presence, after which I will share the offerings with her, which was also typical in ancient times. the libations will return to the earth after the ceremony.

thanks for reading, have a blessed Fors Fortuna for those who celebrate 💛

if you saw this in someone’s home…

would you objectively recognise it as an altar?

after planning it in my head for years i’ve finally set up a tiny (and hopefully subtle altar) to lady Tykhe in my buddhist household :) i plan to sculpt her likeness in clay soon to complete it. fingers crossed my dad doesn’t look too closely! he knows i do tarot and generally doesn’t care what i do but honestly who knows. then again i’m also 23 and have been putting off this altar for 8 years so!

materials used: selenite base, yankee candle, plastic/wood beads, tarot cards from antique anatomy by claire goodchild, candle (which will only be lit for a few mins at a time: fire safety!!!), stromatolite (not pictured), citrine, green adventurine, gold bangle, rose gold chain, coins
