JR Pass vs individual tickets - help with my itinerary
Hi, I’m flying to Japan in a few days and I’m trying to figure out my transport situation and I’m a bit overwhelmed.
I’m travelling with people who already bought a JR Pass, but I had doubts about it from the beginning. I’ve also read quite a lot of posts here about the JR Pass being not worth it anymore, but I still feel a bit lost and would really appreciate some advice.
My main routes plan:
**July 2:** Narita Airport → Tokyo (probably Narita Express?)
**July 4:** 1 day trip to Nikko
**July 7:** Tokyo → Kyoto
**July 9:** 1 day trip from Kyoto to Nara
**July 10:** 1 day trip from Kyoto to Miyajimaguchi (this can be optional for me)
**July 13:** Kyoto → Tokyo
**July 15:** Tokyo → Narita Airport
And beside these I’m also going to use local transport obviously. I already added Suica to my Apple Wallet
My questions are:
\- Will buying individual tickets be cheaper with this itinerary?
\- Should I buy any local/day passes for Tokyo or Kyoto, or is Suica enough?
\- What is the easiest way to buy the tickets? I would prefer e-tickets/online booking.
Also, since the people I’m travelling with have JR Passes, it would be convenient if I could take the same trains as them, but I don’t want to pay extra for the pass if it doesn’t make sense.
