HIV and health insurance in India/Maharashtra?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 38F living in Maharashtra, India, and I’ve been HIV positive since 2010.

I’m trying to figure out health insurance for myself, but I’m running into a major problem: when I disclose my HIV status, insurance companies either refuse to issue a policy or tell me that they cannot cover me because of HIV.

So I wanted to ask people living with HIV in India, particularly Maharashtra:

How are you managing health insurance?

Have any of you actually been able to obtain a health insurance policy after disclosing your HIV status?

If yes:

Which insurance company?

What type of policy?

Did you have to go through a special HIV-related scheme or government program?

Were you able to get coverage for normal hospitalisation, accidents, surgeries, etc.?

What kind of waiting period/exclusions were involved?

Have you successfully made a claim?

I’m also aware that there are legal/regulatory protections around insurance for people living with HIV, but in practice I’m finding it extremely difficult to actually get a policy.

So if you’ve managed to navigate this successfully, please tell me how you did it.

I’m 38 now and want to have some financial protection for myself, especially because I don’t have a spouse or family member who can automatically take care of medical expenses if something happens to me.

Any practical advice would be greatly appreciated

(Thanks for reading my post)

38F, HIV positive since 2010 — does anyone else struggle more with it as they get older?

Im 38F, single, and I’ve been living with HIV since 2010.

For a long time, I honestly thought I was strong enough to handle everything life threw at me. Through my 20s and even into my early 30s, I was pretty brave about it. I focused on work, stayed busy, built my career, and tried not to let HIV define my life.

But lately, something has changed.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started noticing things differently. Friends I grew up with are getting married, having children, building lives with their partners. I’m genuinely happy for them, and it’s not jealousy. But watching people have companionship sometimes makes me wonder, “What did I do wrong? Why does love and having a family feel so far away from me?”

I think what hurts the most isn't even HIV itself anymore. It’s the loneliness and the feeling that time is moving forward while I’m standing still.

I also used to keep myself constantly busy with work. Work gave me a purpose and something to focus on. But now I’m currently jobless, and the job market doesn’t exactly feel kind when you’re getting older. Suddenly, without work to occupy my mind, I have a lot more time to think about everything else.

And some days, those thoughts are brutal.

No partner. No children. No career position where I thought I would be by this age. No feeling that I’ve really built the life I imagined.

When I was in college, my friends and I used to talk about our futures and casually “manifest” what our lives would look like after graduation. I had all these ideas about what I would do and where I would be.

Now I look at my life at 38 and sometimes think, “Is this really it?”

I know objectively that life isn't a race, and I know there are people who find love, marriage, careers, and happiness much later. But emotionally, knowing that doesn't always help.

I guess I’m wondering if anyone else living with HIV has experienced this ......especially people who have been positive for many years and are now in their late 30s, 40s, or beyond.

Did the feelings change as you got older?

Did you ever go through a period where you felt like HIV had taken away possibilities you once assumed you'd have?

And if you eventually found love, companionship, or simply peace with your life, what helped you get there?

I’m not really looking for sympathy. I think I just want to hear from people who genuinely understand this feeling.

Because right now, I feel incredibly lost and honestly a little like I’ve failed at life.

(Thank you for your time to read my long msg

Employer says client terminated me for "performance and behavior," but client says project simply ended. They're also refusing notice pay. What are my options?

I need some advice regarding an employment situation.

I joined an IT staffing company on 5 January 2026 as a permanent employee. Although I was on the company's payroll, I was deployed to work for a client through another organization. Probation period was for 6months

On 3 July friday 2026, my project came to an end. I received a phone call from my employer stating that there were no other projects available and that my employment was being terminated.

later, the company told me that the client had terminated me due to "performance and behavior issues." This came as a complete surprise because:

  1. I never received any warning letters, PIP, disciplinary action, or negative feedback.

  2. I continued working until the last day of the project.

  3. My reporting manager confirmed that my performance was good and that there were no behavioral issues from his side.

To understand what had happened, I spoke directly with the client manager. He told me that he had only informed my employer that the project had been completed and that the employee could be released.

He also stated that no negative feedback regarding my performance or behavior had ever been shared with my employer.

Since these statements contradict each other, I emailed my employer several times asking them to provide written clarification regarding the actual reason for my termination.

I also requested payment in lieu of notice because my appointment letter contains the following clause:

"In the event that the employment is terminated without Cause, the Employee will be provided with 30 days written notice prior to such termination or paid severance pay in lieu thereof equivalent to the basic salary only. During probation period, the company will not provide any notice period or pay in lieu of notice."

I had already completed probation as 5july was Sunday, so this clause applies to me. :(

Despite multiple follow-up emails, the company has not answered my specific questions. They have either sent generic responses or avoided addressing the contradictions altogether.

I am not trying to get my job back. My concerns are:

*) I want my employment records to accurately reflect what actually happened.

*) If my employment was terminated because the project ended and there was no misconduct or poor performance, I believe I should receive the notice pay mentioned in my appointment letter.

*) If the company claims I was terminated "with cause," shouldn't they have evidence, documentation, warnings, or feedback supporting that claim?

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Is it common for Indian staffing companies to cite performance issues after a project ends? Based on the facts above, does it appear that I have grounds to pursue the notice pay and request correction of my employment records??????
