I have read about the astonishingly sophisticated navigation skills of Polynesian sailors, but I was thinking about why that kind of migration happened. Why would a person leave the island he was on for one that only maybe was there, and the journey had a least some chance of killing you? Resources? You were the ones importing pigs, taro, etc. Overcrowding? Just some incredible mindset that this is what you do?
