Married vs Single ($$$)

Is it true that being married without kids aka DINK makes the couple more well off rather than staying single? Heard this hot debate over my catch up with friends and they were arguing back and fourth LOL 😂

Singlehood vs settling down

cross posting this from asksg as here seems to have more ppl :) also open to chatting with ppl :D my comm died :(

good evening sinkies, just wanted to dump some late-night thoughts and see how the rest of yall think about this haha

I was previously in a long-term relationship, but after breaking up, I have been fully enjoying my newfound freedom. think being able to dictate my own schedule, focus on my hobbies, and spend money/time purely on myself without having to account to someone else has been pretty.. great? But at the back of my mind, there's always that slight lingering thought if I will regret this freedom 5 to 10 years down the road when everyone else has moved on to the next life stage?

Looking around my own social circle, it feels like a total mixed bag:

I have friends that are already married, some even with children. Convos with them mostly revolve around BTOs, kids, or home reno. On the other hand, I also have friends starting over from scratch after a messy marriage, mostly due to one side cheating unfortunately.

And lastly, I also have friends (mostly M's) on the dating apps, going on endless coffee dates, getting burnt out by ghosting or mismatched expectations. Among them are actl quite a few decent catches, drawing way above-average pay for their age, average/decent looks, solid personalities, but literally working 60+ hours a week with zero energy left to put themselves out there. (RIP)

It made me realize how everyone is playing a different game right now.. So I just wanted to ask around on what’s everyone's current status right now? (Happily single, actively searching, attached/married, or somewhere in between?)

Also what are your honest thoughts on the current dating scene/singlehood in Singapore? Do you feel the pressure to settle down, or are you comfortable doing your own thing?

PSA: Posting about Employers

Hi /r/singaporejobs community! 👋

Hope everyone's having a good week so far. Whether you're job hunting or currently employed. We are already almost halfway through the week, so hang in there! ❤️

As part of the mod team, I would like to address something I have noticed over the past few months. Already seeing an increase in posts where users share negative experiences about their former employers without censoring identifiable details. In rare cases, some employers have contacted the mod team through DMs requesting that posts be removed and even threatening legal action to obtain information about the original poster, such as IP address etc.

While the mod team have locked some of these threads to prevent further discussion, we are still receiving requests to take them down.

For the time being, I ask everyone to avoid making posts that directly identify companies or individuals. If you wish to share your experience, please remove or censor any identifying information. This helps protect both yourself and the community while the mod team try to work through these situations.

Personally I believe it is very important to hear both employees' and employers' perspectives. At the same time, it's unfortunate when disputes escalate to legal threats instead of constructive dialogue. As part of the mod team, my priority is to keep this community safe and sustainable for everyone.

Will keep you all updated if there are any further developments. Thanks for your understanding and for helping make this community a helpful place for all Singaporeans ❤️

Rebalancing Portfolio

A friend asked for some opinions on his portfolio allocation, and I thought it will be interesting to get broader perspectives.

He's 28, single, has a stable job, no debt, and no major expenses planned in the near future.

Current portfolio: Stocks: ~$100k mostly in S&P Cash in bank: ~$80k Chocolate Finance: ~$90k Total: ~$270k

Allocation: 37% stocks 30% bank cash 33% Chocolate Finance

He already has an emergency fund and doesn't expect to need most of this money for many years. The main question is whether he's being too conservative for his age. With only ~37% in equities and the rest effectively sitting in cash or cash-like instruments, is he potentially sacrificing too much long-term growth?

If you were in his shoes at 28 with a long investment horizon, would you increase the stock allocation? If so, what allocation would you target and would you DCA in gradually or invest a larger amount upfront? Interested in hearing how others would approach this.

Cheers!

Choco or Nah?

Hai all! Deliberating whether I should put money into choco or MMF or self invest? Essentially I know choco isn't that great but because of max miles and the card spend inclusions makes it more attractive. Any advice will be appreciated! :)

Hey! Myself and a couple of other people are looking for genuine people to chat and hang out with 😊

Preferably working adults (22+). We’re trying to keep things mature and drama-free, no weird or NSFW/scam stuff. Been seeing that too much recently on /r/ChillSG unfortunately and wanted to pivot away from that.

So we have a chill SG-based Discord server where we just talk, vibe, and build real connections. Ideally, you’re open to occasional meetups too!

Invites via DM only! Do give me a short intro of yourself and we will work from there!

If that sounds like your kind of space, feel free to join us 🙌
