Newbie looking for tips on vertical set-up for strawberries, serranos, cilantro, Thai peppers and Thai basil

Mid-50s guys here, recently retired and looking to grow some of my own food. Fairly inexperienced with anything but houseplants and looking for advice. I have a patio that gets some full sun for maybe half the day. I was able to grow a serrano pepper plant in a planter box on my fence, and decided to set up a small vertical system on the patio floor (banana for scale).

Today I'll be getting some strawberry and serrano pepper starter plants from Amazon, and I have seeds for Thai basil and Thai peppers (birds eye), and cilantro. I got a simple 5-tier stacking vertical planter. I've read a bit about this and wanted to see what soil mixtures/amendments would you suggest for the above plants, and any other tips for a beginner you might have.

Harness aggression- Aegon growls and snaps when I even try to put it on

So I recently adopted a 4 year old boy.  He’s very cute and loves scritchies and gives enthusiastic kisses.  And when I first got him he just came with a regular collar, which he could of course slip right out of- not safe.  I’ve tried like 4 different harnesses and he hates putting any of them on.  Previously he was at least well behaved on a leash when I could get one on, now he acts like a boat anchor. 

I’ve laid out some sod on a little strip of bare dirt on my shaded patio to create a dog run for him, so he doesn’t have to go on walks in the hot sun to do his business.  But I still have to put on the harness to take him to the vet, the dog wash, or his trainer, the pet store, or the park.  Previously I had no choice but to sneak up behind him to get it on, and at this point even reaching for the harness triggers growling and snapping. 

I’ve tried leaving the harness on the floor and giving high value treats right on it, but he still won’t let me actually put it on.  I’m well aware bulldogs are known for stubbornness, but there has to be a way past this.  I’d welcome any advice.
