Sidewalk maintenance
Hello! My wife and I moved here six months ago and love it! But we’ve noticed a lot of the sidewalks in residential areas are pretty terrible - cracked pavement, chunks missing, potholes, etc. We have a one year old and it’s tough with a stroller. Have also tripped numerous times just walking.
I was reading up on this and saw that under local ordinance it’s the responsibility of the abutting property owner to maintain their sidewalk. This makes sense for snow removal and such, but actual cement/pavement repairs? It’s clearly an ineffective policy; I doubt most people are aware of this and if they are, I doubt most people know how to go about that kind of maintenance.
What would be the steps required to get the law changed so it falls under the town’s purview? What would be the governing body in charge of enacting that change? Would it be the township?
