Any non-expensive table recommandations for U1?

Hey about to get my U1, planning to initially put it on the floor. I am looking for a non-expensive yet sturdy and compact table or cart to put it on. I have about 1 meter in width, if possible not too high

I live in Switzerland, so an european shop would be best :) didnt see anything at ikea?

Thanks

Finally met M31…

During the last few nights villages and cities around me turned off any non essential lights at night for sky observation… i managed to get around 4 hours on M31 over 2 nights as I cant shoot it from my balcony, I had to sit in a field alone so even though I wanted… I wasnt keen on staying longer

Shot using EQ mode 60 sec exposures, processed Siril and Astrowizard

Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) and surrounding Cygnus emission nebulosity

Seestar S30 pro - 2 nights of about 4 hours each of 60 seconds exposures (total of 380x60s) using EQ mode

Processing Workflow

Here is the transcribed Siril workflow from your screenshot (image_730c7d.png) formatted for your Reddit description, including your final Photoshop adjustments:

Siril Workflow:

  • Autostretch & Crop
  • Plate Solve
  • SPCC (Spectrophotometric Color Calibration)
  • Starnet-Syqon Starless (Star removal)
  • Stretch-Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch-HMS (VeraLux_HyperMetric_Stretch.py)
  • Noise Removal - Graxpert-Syqon (GraXpert-AI.py)
  • Optional Second Stretch
  • Curves-VeraLux Curves (VeraLux_Curves.py)
  • Additional Noise Removal
  • Contrast-CLAHE
  • Save (Starless version)
  • Merge Stars-StarComposer (VeraLux_StarComposer.py)

Post-Processing (Photoshop):

  • Dehazing
  • Final contrast adjustments

I'm 2 weeks into the hobby, trying to do my best with editing, struggling with low SNR still, hoping to get more over next nights, but bright moon and Bortle 5 making it hard.

Open for feedback how to improve, what mistakes I made etc! thanks a lot

TonightPlan new 100% free app by CosmicCaptures is awesome

Hi,

I have no connection to that YouTuber; I found it yesterday and wanted to share it because it is entirely free—no account is required.

You select your smart telescope and location, and it suggests the best targets for your equipment and setting.

It also displays images captured with smart telescopes of the target, so you can see what to expect and how effective the result may be.

Enjoy

NGC 6888

first night with my EQ wedge, 193x60s exposure.

edited in Pixil

I'm quite new to astrophoto and believe this lacks some longer exposure to capture finer details in NGC 6888. Moon was very bright too.

will try to capture few more hours tonight of same target to stack it some more

thoughts on the current image and edits?

thx and clear skies

Stacking fails during plan —> plan cancels…. Help

I found out after 3 partially wasted nights that my mosaic fails due to stacking error message after 1-2 hours instead full 4 hours… i dont care that it fails auto stacking as I stack them myself later in Siril….

Any way to have it continue shooting anyways? I am left with partially shot plans that I have to crop hard…

Else I might have to do 4 separate non-mosaic frames with overlap and then stack them? Like in the screenshot

Also where can I set auto dew on for plans? I always have to turn it on once it starts and thus wait for start.

Side question, does rotating the Target also require stacking?? I have the feeling it does, without magnifying

u/bofferding — 28 days ago

Why does it stop shooting the plan after 1-1h30 on a 4h plan EVERY time

First night I thought ok, maybe it's a bug, it only shot for 1h or 1h30 out of a 4h plan... then again next night and again third night and again fourth night.

I don't get it, skies were 100% clear, no clouds, no storage issue no nothing.

App doesn't give me any logs or info on why it would cancel early and I'm honestly annoyed by that lack of information.

I lost 4 precious nights of photons due to this and want to understand what happens.

When you shoot a mosaic on a Seestar S30 pro, does it stop once it did one pass on the mosaic?? Doesn't it continue to go over each frame again and again until end of plan? that is nonsense if it's that way

NGC 6960

Seestar S30 pro - 253 x 60s EQ mount

Request for feedback: i am less than a week into this new hobby, learning the edits still. this is from an OLED screen, it looks different when I view it on my phone or second monitor obviously, so I might be off on color grading? Open for all feedback I can get

Processing Workflow

Siril (Main Processing)

• Pre-Processing: Ran an initial OSC (One-Shot Color) pre-processing script (Naztronomy-OSC_PP.py).
• Cropping: Applied an Autostretch & Crop to frame the target and remove edge artifacts.
• Color Calibration: Performed a Plate Solve, followed by SPCC (Spectrophotometric Color Calibration) for accurate star colors.
• Star Removal: Separated the stars from the nebula and background using the Starnet-Syqon Starless script.
• Initial Stretch: Stretched the starless linear data using Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch (via the VeraLux_HyperMetric_Stretch.py script).
• Noise Reduction: Ran GraXpert AI (GraXpert-AI.py) to denoise the background.
• Secondary Adjustments: Applied an optional second stretch, followed by targeted contrast adjustments using curves (VeraLux_Curves.py).
• Further Refinement: Applied an additional pass of noise removal and boosted local contrast using CLAHE (Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization).
• Star Recombination: Merged the stretched stars back into the starless image using VeraLux_StarComposer.py.

Photoshop (Final Touches)

• Applied Dehaze to cut through remaining background haze.
• Made final global adjustments to Brightness and Contrast.

EDIT 1: Based on feedback, I managed to get Graxpert BGE working, which solved the corners! my manual BGE from SIRIL wasnt working as expected. I also did deconvolution, not sure if it changed a lot, here is new image for those curious. https://imgur.com/a/z8jbbmR

Thanks for all your positive comments and help

Talk about luck? Did i do right?

First time ever trying EQ mode on my photography ballhead tripod…. Looked in stellarium where north is… eyeball angled it, run polar alignement…
0.4 / 0.1 degrees … seems fishy / too easy

Is it correctly setup like this? I dont have an EQ mount, so ballhead adjustments are fishy dont want to jinx it and move it now.

I shot 960 shots in batches thinking I was aiming right... but I am lost

Hey,

i wanted to shoot NGC7000 with my simple tripod and my Z6 using a 150MM prime f2.8 lens and intervalometer

I tried to look at the stars and find it visually but as a newb I think I missed it, I now have 960 shots in 60 or 90 shot stacks of different angles but after conversion, registration and stacking in SIRIL, it seems to be just random starry parts of the sky... I can't make out any constellations to orient myself.

Any guidance on how I can try to see where I was aiming it to learn for next time to orient myself better and find my target?

How do you process batches of 60-90 images without knowing what's in it, background extraction etc is hard if you dont know if you are watching a nebula that just needs more brightness and saturation etc..

also any scripts for such DSLR photo shoots in SIRIL? or do I need to do it manually like I do?

thanks

NGC 7000 - Yesterday night

Hi,

I gave it another shot yesterday night, I like this new one

287 x 30s exposures

Preprocessed with Naztronomy script

edited in photoshop

Seestar S30 Pro

u/bofferding — 30 days ago

Wouldn’t this work on Seestar as a protection?

If you attach it at the top of the arm and bag the body, wouldn’t this work as « extra » safe protection for the night if there was to be surprise unplanned rain and you sleep?it seems large enough to not get caught in the arm moving

NGC 6960 Unsure about my manual editing

Seestar S30 pro - first night shot, NGC 6960, 128 x 30s

stacked using Siril Naztronomy script and then edit in Photoshop

Thoughts?

First S30 Pro Mosaic - Questions - HELP

can see the stitch lines... shot on S30 Pro yesterday. I did plan a 4 hour shoot and found out this morning it stopped after 1h30... i'm so annoyed, skies were clear, no explanation on what happened. enough space etc.
This is my first attempt at a mosaic, is this result due to not enough frames? I have 75 x 30s exposures.
any help appreciated

trying different scripts in Siril... tried feathering too, but it aggressively reduces the frame and some lines still remain and i am having issues to frame the image at all after

does this result mean Mosaic failed? This was using DSA SeeStarMosaicPreprocessing script in Siril

How do you handle chance of rain?

Opening a debate on how much % rain is too big of a risk for you for over night shots while you sleep.

Clearoutside was saying 3-15% rain depending on what hour but also 0mm in volume… checked 3 other local weatherapps, all said 0% so I went to sleep a bit worried but was fine.

I’m wondering how big of a gamble I’m willing to take and risk the biscuit and what your guys take is.

Couldn’t let a 0-5% cloud coverage night go to waste :(

I wish those devices were at least weather resistent to an extent, like a very light drizzle wouldn’t kill it… i ended up putting it below a table on my balcony and shooting at a 45 degree angle out of it. Didnt stack the photos yet but they look fine, checked this morning

HELP - which one is planned target for tonight

I am confused. I created a plan and used the frame magnifying and rotation to get that white box you see around ngc7000 and pelican, then did edit and saw that blue Deneb box and still my red target box.

Can someone confirm before I sleep that my target is the white box? Not the blue? What is the blue?

Thx

NGC 7000

Shot on Seestar S30 Pro - 2 hours of 30 seconds exposures - Bortle 5

Preprocessing in Siril using Naztronomy Smart telescope PP

DeepSNR

Separation of Stars and background --> Photoshop

Saturation, contrast, brightness and reframing

I am brand new to Astrophoto.. started this weekend, learning the trade, also did a shot with my Z6 of the milky way, can see in my post history

Open to all feedback

I would have wanted it to turn out more "red" but my limited skills were not able to retrieve the reds

My edit vs Seestar app edit - Which you prefer - First timer

2 hours of 30 sec exposures on a S30 Pro of NGC 7000

First is "AI edit" on the Seestar app, second is my Edit using Siril and photoshop. Which one looks better? thanks
