Recent IAD evening crowding experiences? (Bilt PP + United Passes, flying Lufthansa)

Hey all,

I’m flying out of IAD on Lufthansa with my two kids at 22:20 on an upcoming weeknight. We plan to get through security around 19:00, which I know is right in the middle of the evening transatlantic rush.

I have a Priority Pass via the Bilt Palladium card (which still allows 2 free guests). I also have 2 United Club One-Time passes in my name.

This will be my first time using PP, but I have heard that many lounges turn PP holders away during peak times or have physical/virtual waitlists.

After looking online I see my options are Turkish at concourse B and Etihad + Air France at concourse A.

For anyone who has flown out recently from IAD in the evening, does turkish remote waitlist actually work, or do they block you if you aren't physically standing at the door? How long was your actual wait time?

What about the Etihad + Air France lounges?

Appreciate any recent data points so I can know what to expect.

Thanks!

PSA: Read this before initiating a battery health test

Returned from a long trip with 4% SOC. Thought it was a good time to appease my curiosity and do a battery health test on my 2023 M3 (SR with LFP battery).

Saw ETA to complete the test was 14 hours. I would need to drive the car after 15 hours so I thought that was sufficient. Turns out I (and also Tesla's estimation) was wrong.

The timeline was as follows:

T: start of the test, started discharge to 0.

T+1: discharge completed, "battery resting" phase

T+3: strated charging

T+13: charging complete, "battery resting" again.

At this time the app and the screen was showing a "less that one hour" remaining. However it was staying at this stage for far too long. I postponed my needs a bit in a hope that the rest would complete. Eventually at T+16 I killed the test as I just couldn't postpone my need any longer.

The worst part beyond the unreliable ETA was that there was no indication if the resting would need 5 minutes or 5 hours more. Only the same message "less than an hour remaining" with no movement. There is a chance that the test only needed 1 minute more to complete before I killed it. I read also from others online that the duration of this phase varies, with some reporting even 8 hours for this phase to complete.

So be aware: the test ETA is unreliable and might take far longer than expected. Learned this the hard way. If you want to appease your curiosity also, at least allocate much more time beyond the ETA.

Hi all,

I have been accumulating points for some time now, have ~500k Chase UR, ~250k Amex MR, ~150k Bilt and ~400k United miles. My goal is to use them for a family trip to Bora Bora (2 adults + 2 kids).

Will be flying from IAD and will likely be using my united miles + a few Chase UR if needed.

My question though is the hotel.

I've seen the following hotels:

  • Conrad Bora Bora: About 1M hilton points for room for 3 (after 5th night free), not sure though if their rooms fit a 4th person.
  • St. Regis Bora Bora: about 880k Marriott points for room of 3. Again unclear if a 4th person would fit.
  • Westin Bora Bora: about 318k Marriott points, but room is for 2 so we would need 2 rooms.
  • InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa: Looks like it is currently under renovation and can't book even for 2027.

Anyone has a good suggestion on where to stay there using points? Is there any award night release schedule for these hotels or some other hotel?
