Journal: helps me. You too?

Don’t want to recommend or advocate any practices. YOU DO YOU! I haven’t journaled for 25 years, since I got into blogging, and haven’t private journaled since the 1980’s. Journaling keeps me somehow anchored to this oh-so-fun journey this 67-year-old has embarked on .

Any thing surprising, insidery you’ve learned during your post-op weeks? Me? Catheter.

Day 11, 67/m. My body reacts to anesthesia by shutting down my urinary tract. Same thing happened during a surgery for pneumonia several years ago. I have an appointment with a urologist tomorrow and, given it’s my second try, I expect to have the catheter removed. But I’ll tell you, as unpleasant as it is having a catheter inserted, I’m kind of glad I’ve had during this first 11 days post-op. No worries about peeing during the night. I can hydrate — and I have!!! — as much as I wish to. Not that I’d request a catheter — EVER!!!! — but it has served me well!

Should I be concerned?

I’ve blown — with quite a bit of effort — two bodies the size and color of smallish raisins (can’t upload a photo) — out of the same nostril in a week. They are brittle, not like boogies you dig out of your nose.
Any guesses?
Thanks!

Walker to a cane?

My sister’s physical therapist, a very experienced person whose ideas I trust and respect, told her I should be ready force cane by the end of this week, 7-10 days post op.
How do I know when to move from a walker to a cane? And, will it be one or the other or a more gradual transition?
Thanks!

Too much blood?

Unwrapped incision 52 hours after surgery. Is there too much blood under the window bandage? After consulting with the surgeon on call where I had the surgery, I re-wrapped the knee in sterile gauze and reapplied the ace bandage. No blood has seeped out from the dressings and I’m really not worried about. It’s my sister and brother-in-law caretakers who are worried.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
