Does anyone else call salsa “hot sauce”? My husband thinks this is specific to my family only.

Hey y’all! My family is from ETX. All of us call salsa “hot sauce”. We do know the difference between salsa and Tabasco, Valentina, etc. But use the term hot sauce interchangeably between the two. Context clues of course would tell you which one we would refer to in conversation.

Anyway, my husband and his family are from NTX. He’s baffled by us calling salsa that. The first time I ever uttered “I’m craving chips and hot sauce”, he was beyond confused.

I’m curious if this is an oddball ETX thing or if it really is specific to just my family. Thanks! :)

For those of y’all who have swapped to closely following a low oxalate and/or low animal protein diet, what are your go-to meals and snacks?

Talked to my urologist today for scheduling yet another stone removal. He’s a great guy, but I do absolutely hate having to see him lol.

We were chatting about next steps, and he suggested I go full bore and cut out as much animal protein as possible and dig deep into my diet to make sure I’m doing foods low in oxalates.

Just curious about your go-to easy meals and snacks, for any of y’all who have also overhauled your diets to help your kidneys! :)

Edit to add: I already know to cut out the usual suspects (most leafy greens, potatoes, processed and/or fatty meats, almonds, beets, etc.) As much as it pained me to give up spinach and beets. It’s for the greater good.

Laser lithotripsy vs ESWL?

I have a 9mm stone hanging out right now. My urologist gave me the option between laser or ESWL. I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons of each.

I’ve had laser done twice now and I still break out into a cold sweat thinking about how miserable it was post-op. But at least I know what to expect.

For ESWL, I have zero idea what to expect. Any thoughts/experiences?

I hate surgery. I hate being knocked out. I especially hated how my urethra felt after a laser lithotripsy. I can deal with how a passing stone feels, but for some reason post-op was just out of this world horrible for me lol. I’m thinking ESWL is the way to go on this one. Just have zero idea what it’s like!

Can tap water possibly be a culprit?

Other than just being genetically cursed with having rock quarries for kidneys, I can’t seem to think of anything else that would cause such frequency of stones. I drink at least a gallon of water daily, stay away from foods high in oxalates, don’t overload on protein, and I drink cokes, coffee, and tea infrequently. And yet, I’m still getting stones about every 6-8 months.

What I’m wondering is if tap water could be a possible culprit. The water at my house is very hard and very mineral-y. I’ve only lived at this house for about a year and a half, which is when the stones started happening.

I’m getting a brita filter today to see if that will help in the future. I’m passing a stone as I write this, so it doesn’t help me now. Any thoughts? My urologist doesn’t have any other advice except to drink a lot of water, which is not helpful because I already am.

Don’t you just hate when you get “that feeling” and you know your life will be absolutely miserable for the next several days to weeks.

I got the feeling yesterday, wrote it off as a pulled muscle from yard work. Nope. It’s here to stay.

Standing in my kitchen using a theragun at 2am. Waiting on meds to kick in and trying not to throw up. Wonderful way to end this lovely 4th of July weekend!

Anyone in DFW/ETX/ArkLaTex!!!! DA is having an on-site sale at their warehouse in Tyler, TX this weekend!

I’ve seen a few folks in here wish they had notice before DA’s warehouse sales. The notice often comes after the sale is over, so here y’all go a little more ahead of time! :)

Fragrant Cloud! I hardly ever see anyone singing her praises, but I like her :)

She is your very typical older finicky tea rose. Bred more for bloom than anything else. She gives me quite a bit of trouble in hot and humid zone 8B, but her blooms more than make up for it! She is eye-poppingly bright!!!

Hey y’all! I’ve been a team member for an agent for several years now. (captive agency, primarily personal lines). Sales and now primarily customer service. I truly do not know how much more I can handle getting battered by customers day in and day out. There’s also no real way to grow other than raises. The work still remains the same. I’m getting severely burned out dealing with the general public, but I truly do enjoy insurance.

I’m interested in becoming an underwriter eventually but I have zero idea what that process looks like to become one, or even what a good candidate would look like.

I understand underwriting comes with its own set of headaches, and agents can be dummies and just as rude as anyone else. But the grass does seem greener on the back office side of the industry than being a lowly CSR.

Any input or advice y’all have would be great. Good or bad! :)

I’m getting conflicting info elsewhere online, my agent doesn’t know, and the rep I spoke to had a case of the Mondays lol.

Does it depend on if the customer has short term or long term disability, or is it based on a doctor’s clearance?

Mostly asking for myself out of curiosity, but also in case customers ask since we’re trying to ramp up offering health products. Thanks!!
