Driving in the dolomites from venice

Any advice or things I should take note off? I'll be renting an automatic car for our trip at the end of October. Are the roads covered in snow or icy yet?

How do I go about with tolls? Is there any app I can use to scout for cheaper petrol stations?

Best spots for sunrise and sunset? (East and West)

I'll be visiting the dolomites at end of October 2026. Will the sun location be different as compared to during the summers?

I did many research but they're usually during summer months. Anyone with experience around this timing for the best spots?

Currently I'm planning to watch them at Val di Funes and Rifugio delle odle, or Alpe di siusi.

Accomodation recommendations in dolomites

Hi, we're planning on trip to both the East and West side.

Currently looking accomodations around Cortina D'ampezzo for east and Ortisei/Val Gardena for the West. However these are hot and top spots hence we're wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives but nearby.

We will be renting a car some distance should be fine.

Appreciate your recommendations!

Best way to book accomodations?

Planning on a trip to dolomites from 28th October to 1st November.

Will be staying around Ortisei and Cortina D'ampezzo (or any cheaper but close by alternatives).

My question is what's the best way to book for accomodations? I usually go for booking.com but i saw some reddit post stating many places don't post on booking.com? They email to the resorts instead?

Are there any websites for the emails?

Many thanks.

Dolomites itinerary: Too optimistic?

Hi all,

We (2 of us) be visiting the Dolomites for 5 days in coming end of October/early November.

Places I will visit are the usual popular sites:

West Dolomites (29th - 31st October):
Base in Ortisei/Val Gardena to visit Santa Maddalena, Alpe di Suisi, Seceda, Val di Funes, Lago di Careera

I've checked the dates for the cable cars to Alpe di Suisi and Seceda and they are open during my time of visit.

East Dolomites (Remaining 2-3 days; 1-2 November):
Base in Cortina to visit Lago di Braise, Tre Cime, Cadini and Lake Sorapis.

Most likely will not be going on any long hikes (we'll do short one due to time).

Is this too optimistic?

Also, I am aware that I do not need to rent a car while visiting the western side. However, a car is RECOMMENDED while visiting eastern side (driving to parking for Tre Cime).

Since I already need a car for eastern side, should I just rent a car from Venice airport (my arrival airport) for the entire 5 days? Plus I noticed that public transportation from Venice airport to Ortisei takes about 5-6 hours.

I will still use the cable cars for Alpe di Suisi and Seceda, its mainly to chase sunrise/sunset (as buses and train haven't operate yet), and being able to stop wherever we want.

PS: Anything I should take note off while driving in Italy? Tolls? I heard parking is expensive. Whats a reasonable rental rate/day?

Appreciate any feedback!

Where to? Italy or Austria

I'm planning a trip end of October to Europe for 12 days. Most likely gonna spend 7-8 days in Switzerland and was wondering if I should go to Austria or Italy for the rest of the day.

So far for Austria I've seen people recommending Hallstatt, Salzburg, Goseesau, Zell Am See and Bad Ischl.

For Italy, I'd love to see the dolomites (anywhere else I should go?). Is it easily accessible by public transport?

I'm a huge fan of nature and hikes.

Would greatly appreciate your insights on my dilemma

My battery is cooked

How is this even happening? I even have battery saver on the whole time.
