Fraud

My parent was contacted by a Rogers (probably not) representative who offered a phone and plan upgrade. When they told me about the new phone they were about to receive, I showed them the scam. Now that we have received the phone, it seems impossible to report this to Rogers. The support line disconnects you due to high volume, the fraud number needs you to have an extension number for an agent. The chatbot doesn’t seem able to respond to these types of questions.

Any ideas on how to get ahead of this?

Energy Rebate

I’ve just helped my elder parents apply for the Alberta Energy Rebate. As a 60 y/o, I’m beginning to appreciate how difficult it is for my 80+ y/o parents to navigate these online portals and the poorly designed interfaces.

After I completed all of the various steps, I thought back to the not so distant past where GST rebate cheques appeared in our mailboxes and various government handouts are mailed or show up automatically in our bank accounts. My parents get regular CPP and OAS deposits so the process already exists.

Why is this particular program so badly designed? Is this the start of the Alberta Government trying to bypass federal programs?
