Self build - reuse of current sewage tank?

Hi. We're working towards a self build in England. It's a class q conversion (or at least, that's the planned route), it's an old farm.

The farm has some kind of sewage/septic tank/poo tank. My query is:

* How can I find out what the size/scale/capacity it is, without having to dig it up? i.e. can someone stick a camera down and tell me what's going on?

* Can I reuse this for the sewage for the build - if so, what are the capacity requirements/thresholds etc? If any can be defined.

* Is there a specific body that deals with this sort of thing in the UK that I can reach out to?

Thank you!

How is your meat wrapped? (In grocery stores and supermarkets!)?

Hello hello! I was talking to a colleague recently who said that most meat in US grocery stores/supermarkets are in a blown foam tray and then overwrapped with something like cling film?

Is this true, is it all meat/proteins?

It's much more common in the UK to have meat in a plastic tray that is then sealed with a thin plastic film, or sometimes 'skin wrapped' like this: https://www.kmpackaging.com/products/skin-films

The idea of this is that the meat stays fresh longer because they can take out the oxygen around it/replace it with something else.

If you could tell me how your meats are wrapped, I'd love to know!

(Obviously none of this applies to proper butchers!)

Edit: Thanks for your responses! It does seem very common.

Class Q Conversion - Q1.b.iii - other uses since agricultural use

England.

We are hoping to achieve a Class Q conversion, taking one very long building and creating a house out of either end of it. Removing the middle section.

We meet the majority of the requirements, but I have a query about this section:

"since ceasing to be part of an established agricultural unit, the site has been used for any non-agricultural purpose,"

My questions are:

  • Does the above apply to commercial uses, or any use? Let's say I have kept a bicycle in the shed, or some furniture from a house move. Would keeping personal items in the barns mean Class Q cannot be provided?
  • Does the above apply to the whole site, or the build area? For example. I have stored personal items in a shed nearby, but not in the barns marked for conversion. Does this make the whole site non-class-Q-able?

If you have any further advice, I would love to hear it!

Thank you.

Class Q Conversion - Foundation Questions

UK. We have a long building that we hope to turn into two homes under a class Q conversion. I've spoken to several people who say it's possible for us to put in an internal wooden frame to recreate the internals of the building to be what we want, which is great.

The floor is poured concrete. I would like to build up from this slightly, and we are likely going to have to, to get through the flooding checks.

My question is: as the structure is already supported by it, and we're only adding a wooden frame, would there be any need for further foundation work? Is there a way to be sure of this?

Any guidance in this area appreciated.
