Alcohol recovery at 55

Alcohol recovery at 55

With the weather better today, did a 10km trail (sorta trail) run today to sweat out or burn up the alcohol from last night.

Recovery time from over drinking takes longer now at this age. HR was about 10bpm higher than normal all day and felt lethargic in the morning. Really had to push to get myself moving.

Sigh. Aging.

Trophy husband duties

Anybody else here required to dress up and attend our wives' events and clubs?

I feel I wear suits, tuxedos and barongs more now that I'm retired than when I was working. Anybody in the same boat?

Wishing everyone a healthy weekend...

So hard to hit fitness targets with all the rainy days we've been having.

Can't ride the bicycle. So I've been walking around 20,000 steps per day at the nearest mall. Not quite as fun as cycling but gotta keep my body moving.

I hope everyone is doing well this gloomy weekend.

Sometimes, the world is just telling you something better is coming...

Woke up this morning to disappointment with the bike throwing up an error.

This set the things in motion for a free Hokkaido oyster and salmon lunch.

Service guy just told me it's may have been a simple glitch that can be corrected easily. It was and all is well.

Bilmola Tomica 55th anniversary and Initial D helmets

TLDR;

Loved the livery...

ECE 22.06 certified...

Cheap...

Dunno if I'll wear them though...

Bilmola. Never heard of the brand before this year. I found the Tomica 1st about a month or so back. Today, I got the Initial D.

They're roomy but still snug. Lining feels good. A bit on the heavy side but lighter than my Arai RX7X. Airflow is ok. Both came with clear and dark smoke lenses. Fit and finish are well above their price point. While they are ECE 22.06 rated, I'm wary about the polycarbonate shell.

Still, they are pretty.

Anyone else have a Bilmola? What are your thoughts?

GRX400 2x10 46/30T 11-42T on a Jamis Renegade S3

Worked out pretty well with just a cassette and chain change.

Posted images at normal, max extension and max slack for reference.

Won't be doing small-small nor big-big while riding.

1st ride and thoughts on the Jamis S3 (steel) vs. the Giant Revolt Advanced 1 (carbon)

Took the Jamis for a 30km spin around the city this morning.

Was expecting it to feel like what I've watched and read about steel bikes: smooth, soft, flexy and heavy.

Surprised it didn't feel that way. It felt, well, unremarkable. Not really shining in any quality but good enough through all of it. Climbing the kapitolyo loop and the st. paul to estancia loop, I didn't really feel the weight of it. It felt like a tool. Nothing wow but got the job done with no faff.

Getting home, I put it side by side with my Revolt and gathered my thoughts on how similar and different they are from my view as a casual rider.

  1. Weight. Yes, the Jamis is roughly 3kg heavier in my riding configuration. On the road, never really felt it even on climbs. I feel it when I mount the bikes on my bike tower. So, yeah, the Revolt hangs on the upper hanger while the Jamis stays at the bottom.
  2. Comfort. Both bikes are set up to have almost exact same rider triangle. The Jamis feels slightly smoother over light road cracks. The Revolt feels like it takes deeper hits slightly better. Both are comfortable enough for my 45 minutes stints on the saddle before drink stops.
  3. Drivetrain. The Revolt has the mechanical Apex 1x12 while the Jamis has the mechanical GRX 2x10. I prefer the simplicity of 1x in regular riding conditions. The 30 front ring makes climbs so much easier on the 2x.
  4. Cost. The Jamis SRP is 85,000 while the Revolt is 150,000. After discount, the Jamis cost 64,000 while the Revolt cost 75,000. The Revolt came with everything needed to go tubeless in the box. I spent another 10,000 on the Jamis to go tubeless (tires, tape, sealant, valve and labor). So both came out just about the same price in the end.

Which is better? They're about the same to me.

I'll see over the next few weeks which one I subconsciously choose on my regular morning rides.

Rode to Ilocos Norte today to say goodbye to my cousin. I seem to be celebrating the lives of my generation more and more.

Coffee stop muna sa Vigan before heading to San Juan for 3 days of surfing like we used to do.

Sana may waves.

RIP cuz.

Random overnighter.

Went to the bus station. Ran a random number generator and board the X bus from the left for a random overnighter. I will be doing this more often.
