Early Iterations of my "homelab" before we called it that ...

I found a few old pictures of iterations of my "homelab" in the middle of Nebraska between 1999-2005 ... back in the day. During this time I transitioned from primarily ISP work to ... well you can probably guess where I worked when the last picture was taken ... The first picture with the two desktop machines are fractional T1 bandwidth to a Cisco 2600 and a linux firewall (the "Team Internet" box was just a generic PC running linux with several interfaces) and just two generic desktop machines doing DNS, web hosting and email.... The second picture was multiple internet connections coming in to a Juniper and a Pix firewall .... Do any of you have some OLD pictures of what it looked like at your house when you very first started "self hosting"?

Installed FygoOS on Minisforum N5Max

I asked yesterday in three separate subreddits if anyone had tried FygoOS on an AMD 395+ Strix Halo device like the N5Max and nobody seemed to have any information so I decided to just back up my n5max and try it out myself. It was much more simple to get everything working than I expected. I just installed the OS from the USB key, installed the AMD driver package and the AMD Rocm package that were in the App Store, rebooted and I was able to get the driver version and rocm version from amd-smi after that so I installed the Ollama package from the App Store and it recognized th GPU immediately. I did a pull of Qwen 3.6 35b from Ollama as a test. I know this leaves a lot of performance on the table but the whole idea was to try out the drivers and apps as they come from Fygo directly first. I tested out the performance of the model generically doing a real coding task (a python script that generates digits of pi and a python script that created a terminal based matrix movie screensaver) and a generic prose task (telling stories) the average for coding tasks was 60ish tps and for prose it was about 50ish tps ... none of this was terribly scientific ... I mostly wanted to see IF it worked out of the box or if there was a lot of tinkering below the surface that would be required to get it to work. From there I installed the fygo photos app and enabled hardware acceleration for the ai face detection and smart recognition and it also saw the gpu and applied proper offloading so it no longer spiked the gpu and took a long time to process the images. In general this was a very, very pleasant surprise. If you're doing anything more complicated, you will likely need to do some real tinkering, but to get generic ai capabilities like getting a generic inference server up, getting the ai search features for searching and recognizing photos working, etc and even setting up a basic Hermes agent from the App Store was all a breeze.

Has anyone tried FygoOS on Strix Halo?

I am new here, I just tried fygo on a small Beelink unit and was pretty impressed and saw in the App Store that there were drivers for AMD/Rocm and it looks like there are a number of default apps that support ai features out of the box (bad pun, intended) and did some googling and came up completely short trying to find any information so here I am ... have any of you tried running Fygo on a strix halo machine, not specifically the Minisforum N5Max but extra points if someone has experience with it directly ... What I want to know mostly is this ... Does the kernel version that ships with fygo have a new enough amd driver and firmware that when you install the bundled rocm, etc do the ai tools work reliably and comfortably and also ... does fygo support the kind of kernel tuning that is required to get the most out of strix like setting the ttm limits for unified memory etc without the settings being blown away every time there is an update? Any gotchas? I'm familiar with all of the theoretical and generic linux things, I'm running half a dozen strix halo machines on linux already, I'm looking explicitly for real user accounts from people who have tried Fygo, specifically, on strix halo 395+ machines, and thank you in advance for anyone that has any useful information.

Hack2you touchpad came today

I ordered one of these a while ago and it arrived in the mail today. I was a little skeptical at first but after the install (total maybe 10 minutes) and after my first boot I was hooked. This thing makes the uconsole feel like an entirely different device … from a super cool toy that is a bit of a pain to use for anything graphical because of the pointer config to a genuinely fun and easy to navigate device whether you’re using the terminal or the gui …. Edit: sorry I forgot to add the link to the kit I bought https://hack2you.tech/products/uconsole-trackpad-keyboard?variant=49063521681658

Exposed web api for QSW-M5216-1T 25 gig 16 port switch so I can configure it programmatically now. I have a QSW-M3216R-8S8T also and I got it working but it has a very different backend api. (V2) Created a python script that autodetects version https://github.com/brainchillz/QNAP-Switch-API
