Please help a noob troubleshoot: System drive is full, but I can't locate how or where.
Hiya all! Mia here, total noob when it comes to NAS, but I've been running a QNAP TS-451+ both as a media server and for data backups for roughly a year now. It's been a bumpy ride as someone who is not remotely experienced in this, but I'm learning a lot!
I currently have the NAS set as follows:
Disk 1: 240GB SSD for the NAS's actual apps and system
Disk 2: 2TB HDD, I don't think I've assigned it anything yet
Disk 3 + 4: 8TB x2 in a miroring RAID configuration (I can't remember / find the exact raid type) for all the backups and media data I actually store on it.
Now, finally, for the question at hand:
Recently, "system" drive is reportedly clogged fully, And I don't know how to check with what's it's filled by. I can't see the contents (much like I'd expect to be able to browse a hard drive / flash drive on a computer), I don't know if or how to access the "other". In screenshot 2 you can see I can't view the root of that drive in filestation 6. I am fairly confident it hapepend when I accidentally assigned a computer backup to it, which of course immediately fileld it to the max almost right away. But then I moved the "home" folder to the backup drive(s) via the "Storage and Snapshots" app in hopes of resolving that issue. I don't know how come said backup is (presumably) still sitting on the System drive and I do not know how to clean it up. In terms of snapshots, I don't seem to have any. Screenshot 3 shows a portion of the apps list and other details. You can see a few apps I have installed-- and while they're not all visible, I guarantee they don't go past 15-20GB altogether at most.
I tried my best to research this online but I think I'm missing key words or elements to get results or useful advice. The most helpful thing I could find is something about "thick" and "thin" volumes; mine appears to be a "thick" one which apparently isn't optimal, but I still find it strange to behave as radically as this.
As I previously mentionned, even if it isn't the solution, I'd really like to be able to "browse" all of the system drive's contents like a computer's internal hard drive, sine even filestation seems a tad limited. I'm tempted to turn off the NAS, physically remove the drive, and put it on my PC to see (not edit, though, of course) the contents, but I could foresee that being either a disaster from one wrong move, or largely worthless.
All that said, I'm trying to be as coherent and helpful as possible, but I apologize for any missing info or confusing phrases / terminology / etc. I'm assuming there is a big glaring issue and I'm hoping it's an easy fix. It could also be that I didn't configure this thing in the wisest way and I'm worried it might be a major undertaking to get it running how I'd like it. EIther way, I'm incredibly gratreful for any insight as it'll likely take a bit of work. Again I must stress my lack of experience so please be patient; but I do thank you very much in advance!!
