Why are so many stores closed on south st?

Drove by last night and noticed so many stores closed on south st. Why is that?
Bunch of smoke shops tho.

Canceled this immediately realizing NYC. How does uber justify this? Why would people accept this?!
Roundtrip of 3 and a half hours, 186 miles.
Toll of $40+
Gas $25~
Shocking but not news.
