I have 4 x 32GB sticks of registered DDR4 memory that's labeled 2RX8 - specifically PC4-3200AA-RE4-12. If my memory serves, this was pulled from a Xeon D 2100 system (which I do not have access to now). For reasons, I do not wish to sell this RAM but am interested in using it - but I don't want to buy a board and CPU if it isn't compatible. I'll probably use it as a ZFS filer.

Is this memory likely to work with one of the cheap X99 boards with a Xeon E5 v4 CPU that I see on aliexpress? These builds are very cheap and maybe what I want if this RAM is compatible (with the biggest downside being PCIe gen3).

Thoughts on the lowest cost class of system I could use this memory with that offers PCIe gen4+? It might work with EPYC Rome or Milan which cost more but the 128 lanes of PCIe gen4 are very attractive.

If this subreddit is the wrong place to ask about what is more enterprisey-class stuff, my apologies - and could you direct me to a more appropriate one?
