Which Barnes & Noble are you hitting up for the Criterion sale on Friday?

Secret-Owl-9469’s recent post expressing surprise at the credit earning potential of premium tanks makes me wonder why folks bother with tech tree tanks once they’ve got a few decent premiums or collectors.

I played very casually (F2P) for years, often deleting the game for months or years at a stretch. Sometime last year I got my first “good” (usable/fun) premium/collector tank in a free event crate and eventually made the same discovery. Up to that point I had mained TDs exclusively, and while I wasn’t terrible (though still a filthy casual), the credit struggle was real, especially, it seemed, for TDs. I’d see people posting credit earnings here and be in awe, because my tech tree TDs would often barely break even, even on a win when I survived the match. I needed to do serious damage, kill multiple enemies and earn medals to turn even a meager profit. And let me tell you, when you’re playing vulnerable TDs, you’re frequently at the mercy of your team, relying on everyone to know and do their jobs, so the rate at which you survive long enough to do that much damage is often low.

I’m now up to 33 premium and collector tanks, only one of which I paid cash for in one of those crazy deals that included a stupid amount of credits, boosters and a free Tier VII rank for under $2. Everything else has been event grinding, quest boxes, and a few purchased with (mainly) free gold. I’m to the point where I rarely play my tech tree tanks any more because the grind is such a chore, and heaven forbid you bring a new, not fully upgraded tank to an actual battle. I recently burned through a bunch of free XP to get from Hellcat to T30 (had a couple 50% off research certs), and the actual grind when I got the T30 and immediately ran out of free XP was painful. I don’t really feel the urge to grind more tech tree tanks, tbh. I have four Tier X TDs and one Tier X heavy and almost never play them. I’m much happier and have more fun playing Tier VI-VIII premium/collectors without ever having to worry about selling tanks to pay for ammo restocks and the like.

So I wonder; are you still grinding tech tree tanks, and if so, why?
