OpenGait – an open-source, real-time running form & gait analysis engine (Rust + WebAssembly). Looking for collaborators :)

Hey everyone,

I’m an ultra-marathoner and software engineer, and recently started working on an open-source project called OpenGait with the idea to build a local, real-time running biomechanics and gait analysis tool that processes camera feeds (e.g., side-view webcam or phone on a treadmill) at 60+ FPS to give immediate feedback on running form—without uploading raw video to any cloud server.

Looking for Collaborators

The project is completely open source (AGPLv3 / PolyForm Noncommercial) and I'm looking for people who want to help build it out:

  • Rust / C++ Devs: Optimizing the ONNX inference loop, frame buffering, and multi-threading for low-end hardware.
  • Frontend Devs (React / Canvas / WebGL): Building smooth 60 FPS skeletal rendering overlays and interactive charts for session debriefs.
  • Biomechanists & Physios / Runners: Helping refine the angle formulas, ground-contact algorithms, and scoring metrics so they reflect actual physical therapy best practices.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested, feel free to take a look at the repo, drop a PR or send me a DM!

Building a race planner app and would love some honest feedback

Hey everyone,

I'm currently training for an ultra, and I quickly realized that preparing for the race involves much more than just the training plan.

I found myself jumping between Google Docs, Notes, spreadsheets, and even AI chats to keep track of gear, nutrition, travel, race strategy, and all the little things that are easy to forget. Somewhere during a long run, I started thinking about building something to make it easier for me.

So I spent the last few weeks building a small free web app called Taper:
https://gotaper.app/

The idea is simple: a clean, journal-inspired workspace where you can keep everything related to a race—notes, checklists, nutrition plans, gear lists, race reports, and whatever else helps you feel prepared on race day.

It's still very much an MVP, and I'm building it because I want to use it myself. Before I spend months adding features, I'd love to know if this solves a real problem for other people too.

A couple of questions:

  • What's the most frustrating part of planning for race week?
  • Would you ever use a dedicated app for race preparation, or are Docs/Notion/Excel already good enough?
  • If you tried the app, what feature is missing that would make it part of your race-day routine?

I'm not trying to sell anything—I genuinely want honest feedback, whether it's positive or brutally critical. If you take a look (whether you are into sports or not), I'd really appreciate hearing what you think.

Some disclosure: I used some agents to generate the landing page as I'm not good with design and ideas, but tried to code most of the BE and FE of the dashboard by myself with some guidance for some specific React/Vite functionalities.

Good luck with everyone's summer training and races!
