got called as if i no call no showed, but i was taken off the schedule for today

Just finished my first month (part time) as a cna at a ltc facility. i got my july schedule on monday, and realized it didn’t match my requests which i submitted on time— it just somehow got lost? anyways, i met that night with the scheduling coordinator who apologized that my requests were lost, and i sat with her and worked with her and watched her correct my july schedule and print it off. one of my requests was to have saturdays off. my facility only requires that we work one day every other weekend (so we just have work either saturday OR sunday every other week + i am working every single sunday happily). i got a call when i was originally scheduled today asking where i was and i told her the situation i just wrote and she was like well you’re still on the schedule and just hung up. I sent a picture of the printed off schedule i was given and she just said it was up to the on call?

  1. what does that even mean, “up to on call”?
  2. am i going to be punished for operating off the schedule i was given just because other people’s schedules show the wrong thing?

is it normal for a cna to refuse certain residents?

today was my first time working with a more experienced cna and she immediately said she wouldn’t handle two certain residents because they don’t like her…

i’m happy to be the one to care for them so they’re more comfortable, but am i being too judgemental for wondering what she did that they don’t like her and she won’t care for them? they’ve always been very pleasant to care for in my experience, but i’ve also only been a cna for a month so i know i don’t know everything

ETA: this particular resident is not known to be a problem generally, she’s particular about how she wants things done, but has always been kind and playful with me and everyone i know who’s worked with her + that’s why my eyebrows were raised— i’ve never seen her be genuinely rude/ harass a cna/ assault anyone and even tonight she was super upbeat and friendly

2 weeks notice tips

I will be putting in my notice in a few weeks when I go back to school for the fall. i’m at a ltc facility for the summer, and on my application I said that I’m in an out of state bachelors program + my anticipated grad date and when my initial schedule was being made, the don (who has since left) said to just let them know my fall schedule once school started. I’m realizing i don’t think i made it clear enough that i’m an out of state student and therefore will be leaving in the fall. i’m not quitting out of anger or anything happening to me, but how should i do my 2 weeks notice? i’ve never actually quit a job before lol

first job and mixed feelings

at first i felt useless bc i would just stand around and watch while training bc no one was like actually training me, just kinda having me help which isn’t teaching me how to operate when im not following someone around like a puppy. now im technically still supposed to be training, but they haven’t been pairing me with any trainers (so when there should be me and two others on the floor, it’s just me and one other person).

i feel confident in my abilities to do the tasks, but im slower at getting them done. some of the cnas are really nice about it but some just seem to get frustrated with me, especially because Im actually certified but less experienced than the NAs. they keep checking in that i’m actually certified (heaven forbid a girl be certified before starting to work?)

on the flip side, ive had even the “mean” or “difficult” residents be nice to me when im on my own vs when im with a trainer and thank me and tell me im doing good or even that im doing better than other people changing them. i feel like this is because im moving slower and taking my time, so residents aren’t hurting as much or feeling so thrown around or bossed at.

i’ve definitely learned a lot and gotten better since i started but i still just feel dumb and useless sometimes bc the more experienced people seen to get fed up with me a little bit

when should i start applying for fall semester jobs?

Obviously it’s way too early rn to apply for anything, but when i get to school (oos) in the fall, I would like a little nicer of a clinical job than i’m at for the summer (ltc cna). i want a hospital job but i know the spots fill up fast with students (im in a metro area w a lot of colleges with lots of pre meds). classes start like mid august so when should i apply for jobs?

do you think in like 50 years ltc facility rooms will be decked out like college dorms are now?

like nursing home rooms are kinda dorm vibes with the roommate situation and what not, with how full out people go for their dorms now do you think people will be going full out in their nursing homes in the future lol

can i carry a pocket notebook to remember things?

pretty much title! wondering if i’m allowed to carry around a little notebook to remember details for charting or if that breaks privacy in any way? i’m on my second day ever as a cna and haven’t done any charting of my own yet, but my trainers will ask me certain things that i really just don’t remember bc idk the residents by name yet but i’d feel more useful if i could just jot it down in a little pocket book

cna for clinical hours

in the middle of my first day as a cna (ltc/rehab facility) to get my clinical hours and oh my goodness i do not like this at all help. not intellectually stimulating at ALL and i have learned that my muscular dystrophy is in fact impacting me because i am so weak i feel useless for physical tasks.
i don’t have enough time in the summer left to find a new job though because i go to school oos and have early move in so i can like only work for the month of july by the time i find a different position. realistically im just going to have to tough it through the summer and hope for a hospital position in my college town but i like to complain so here i am

will i get in trouble?

today is supposed to be my first day of training at a cna job at a ltc facility. i also have an autoimmune disorder for which i have to get biweekly treatments that take 3.5 hours. i scheduled my appointment today for 9 am so that id be done before 1 pm to have time to go home, change, eat, and get ready for my 3-11 shift. idk what happened but i didn’t even get seen until 9:45 and my infusion just started at just after 11, meaning i wont get done until after 2 pm. it takes me 30 minutes to get home and another 20 to get to the facility and the nurses can’t speed up my infusion any because it has a really strict rate. they said they would give me a note but im just really anxious because this is my first cna shift ever and im going to be late. i called to let them know but the girl who answered the phone sounded rude about it

how to be social over the summer?

i have a few close friends in my hometown, but when i’m home, i miss having fun social things to go to with groups of people over the summer. it doesn’t help that my hometown is also a college town so most social activity leaves my hometown over the summer. I had a good amount of friends in high school that I wasn’t really close enough to keep up with but i also don’t really know how to go about making new friends when hometown stuff just feels so set in stone. i’ve always been an introvert so im not the best at starting up new conversations or friendships but i love having things to go to and people to talk to and such if that makes sense

idk just wondering how i can make my summer more fun and social than just work and studying
