Guys Can I FoamTac This??

Sarcasm lol …

Had my first “bad” crash in a really long time (I.e. one warranting a rebuild to some degree). The mess in the first photo is just from me pulling apart the bad stuff to salvage the rest of the major components.

Unfortunately, it was my fav UMX (right now) 😢

Thankfully the damage was just the fuselage, and got one on next day from Amazon.

The hstab and wing root had a small crack each, but Foamtac did fix that haha. And I do intend to reassemble with Foamtac anyway, so not totally sarcasm.

Crashing is never fun but it is valuable to learn the means to repair!

New Blade Heli - Swashplate Leveling

Hey all, getting back into rotors after many years off (although a very avid fixed wing pilot) and this was the OOB swash position on my new Eclipse (in normal/SAFE; in Stunt it's still slightly tilted). I followed the Forward Prog. calibration procedure and can adjust the swash sub trim (to an extent), but this seems excessive.

I did try to take off on my maiden (thinking maybe this was a torque countering calibration situation), but it immediately wanted to roll.

What is the actual procedure here to properly level it?

The manual only shows FP calibration and trim flight... The attitude trim settings OOB are -450/0 aileron/elevator. I'm not sure how I would do a trim flight when A) it doesn't even want to get off the ground and B) it would definitely slide hard if it did get airborne.

Like I said, new to this (again), so your insights and patience are appreciated :)

500mm Brushless Warbirds

Hey guys, anyone have an iteration of the 500mm brushless Rage/Volantex/Eachine warbirds line? I.e. Spitfire/F4U/P51

I’ve been really keen on getting one, but prices are up to $179/$199 BNF/RTF these days… wondering if those who own one would pay that price today?

Trying to evaluate the value proposition overall based on overall experience!

TIA!

Got Myself a Birthday Gift 🎉

Maiden video ^

Today is my birthday! Been hoping to add a biplane to my hangar for some time now, and have seen this guy sitting on the shelf at my LHS for a long time, so I decided to snag it as a gift to myself.

This thing rips! Definitely fits a nice niche in my lineup (both aesthetically and performance wise), plus it’s gonna look so good hanging with my other birds 😎

Edit: it’s the Eflite UMX Pitts - forgot to include that!!

Going to Need a Bigger UMX Hanger 😅

Well…I went into my LHS for something unrelated, and walked out with the UMX A10!

Now with the Ultrix, Radian, TTE, and A10, I feel like I have a UMX for just about every space/environment/mood lol.

Attached is my 60-second maiden flight video. Wind was 6g16 mph and it handled so well!

What should my next UMX be? What is everyone’s favorite?

(Apologies in advance for the telemetry alarms; forgot to disable my 2S battery voltage thresholds lol).

DSM Tools - Relearn Servos

Installed an AR630 in my T28 PNP and need to reverse my aileron and elevator gyro directions.

I was able to do that in “Plane Setup”, but can’t find the “relearn servos” option to get the changes to actually apply.

What am I missing here? I’ve seen old videos of the v0.5 “forward programming” script that I assume has been integrated into DSM Tools and the option is there.

Thanks in advance!

EDF Motor Stuttering Behavior

Hey all,

Just took my brand new Habu SS 50 for its Maiden flight after receiving it yesterday.

I’m new to EDF, but after some initial testing and a couple laps around the field, I noticed my motor making a stuttering sound at roughly 25% throttle (video).

Pretty noticeable while taxiing due to the lower throttle setting (that's when I first discovered it), and doesn’t seem to be an issue once you pass that threshold.

I’m just curious if this is some voltage specific EDF behavior or if it’s RMA…

Was planning to put in a support ticket but wanted to see if any of my fellow enthusiasts had any insights. Had issues with a few of my E-flite planes recently, so definitely feeling a little discouraged.

Thanks!

EDIT: I ended up contacting Horizon and they immediately sent a replacement ESC and motor, no questions asked. Pretty nice.

Finally Decided to Venture Into EDF

With nearly a dozen prop planes in my bag, I’ve been wanting to get an EDF for a while. When they re-released the Habu last month, it really peaked my interest.

Decided the 20% off sale was as good a time as any!

Anyone else pick this up and fly it on 3S 2200?

Sometimes it’s the little details…

Finally got my newest bird up in the sky at dusk and, I must say, the LEDs really do add a fantastic aesthetic.

Something about a slow flying scale plane is very serene!

Brand New UMX TTE - Flaps Servo

Hey all, just unboxed my brand new UMX TTE and, after configuring the flaps, was immediately greeted by a lovely sound (see video - full flaps position).

I know these linears are notorious for issues, but this definitely seems like they are over limit out of the box…

The only fix I’ve found is reducing the min endpoint below 60%.

Anyone know of another fix other than losing 40% of my deflection? Or is it not really a big deal on this plane? Haha.

Also… does anyone know the easiest way to remove the elevator ball linkage? It’s like 0.5” from the fuselage (on the inside of the linkage) and very hard to remove for manual adjustment.

Thanks!!

EDIT: SOLVED - the servo wire was looped around the control rod on the inside of the fuselage and was getting pulled taught when the servo actuated… a silly problem in the end

P307 Bricked 🫠

Just got this a couple months ago and every time I use it, I notice heat creep that causes some glue to melt into the mechanism. I used it last night upon inspection this morning, the trigger and power switch mechanisms are completely fused.

Several comments about this behavior on HD website reviews too (now that I look retrospectively).

Anyone had this issue and claimed warranty? Waiting on a reply to my contact form inquiry now.

Wondering if the other (smaller) 18V version is better.

Finally Some Good Thermal Weather!

Added this to the hanger today as I slowly build my fleet of UMX. Wind is 11 gusting 17 (mph) and it still flies like an absolute champ. Flew 10+ min on a single battery and still had some to spare.

What is everyone’s favorite UMX? For my next one, I’m torn between TTE, Air Tractor, and Waco…

Fellow UMX Ultrix Owners - an Inquiry...

Hello all!

I (somewhat impulsively) bought a UMX Ultrix last week and ... it has thankfully turned into one of my favorite planes in my bag. However, I am trying to figure out a weird attitude tendency and wanted to see if anyone had similar experiences (or possibly a remedy).

Given how tiny the plane is, it's challenging to gauge the CG, but I think I'm pretty darn close with the battery placement. Out of the box, I didn’t make any changes to the mechanical throws.

When flying below 50% throttle with SAFE off, the plane flies in super high alpha (basically stalled). Then, once I advance the throttle above 50% (and especially once I get to 75-80%) it flies straight and level for a split second, and then enters a pretty steep descent. This happens without fail at higher throttle speeds. In SAFE, the plane does not climb, but actually descends slightly.

I read the manual about “adjusting mechanical trim if you have to use more than 4 clicks of trim”, but when I tried to add up elevator to compensate, it climbed aggressively instead.

Not sure if this is normal, or if I have something configured wrong, or if the gyro/AS3X is overcompensating for something? Also not sure if you can “center” linear servos, or what the default deflection should be when static.

Curious how your all’s Ultrix(es) fly. Thanks in advance!

New to Radiomaster - Pairing HobbyZone Warbird to TX16S

Hello all, I got a TX16S 4-in-1 this week and have managed to successfully pair all my aircraft (some FlySky, some DSM), except for one.

I have the recently released HobbyZone T-28 450mm that I am trying to pair to the remote, but am having no luck. I've read over a dozen posts about using V761, 4ch, etc.; read the multiprotocol module documentation; etc. but cannot get the plane paired up to my RM remote.

Has anyone had luck pairing any of the HobbyZone planes to a RM? I was under the impression these were just rebranded Eachine birds, but those steps are unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance.
