Is it just me, or is the media coverage/reviews for the M64 incredibly weird?
I’m making this post because I feel like I'm losing my mind trying to find objective coverage of this console online.
I own both the M64 and the A3D. Since I have both in front of me, the technical differences are pretty obvious. The Analogue 3D looks incredibly sharp out of the box and runs almost everything flawlessly, while my M64 has some clear visual quirks (overblown whites) and definitely struggles with frame drops on a few games that I have tried.
But if you look at almost any major influencer "review" on YouTube right now, you would think the M64 is a near-flawless masterpiece. Even weirder, so many of these videos completely ignore the Analogue 3D as a comparison. When they do mention it, they almost like they read from the same script: "Well, the Analogue 3D is permanently sold out and won't be restocked, so the M64 is your only choice." Except... I literally went to Analogue's website and saw various colors in stock (maybe not all, but still).
Was a lot of the early coverage just influencers being paid by ModRetro, handed a script by their PR team, and sent on their way without actually reviewing the real hardware?. Also, some actual gaming media seems to be completely ignoring the console's existence, I am guessing because the ceo drama...
Am I missing something? Are there any reviewers out there who actually treated this like a piece of video game hardware instead of some weird lifestyle brand product? Just wanted to see what the actual community thinks vs. the influencer hype.
