Do A3D Memories work like save states on a typical emulator?

People keep posting these convoluted guides to using memories and it feels like they're just making things more confusing for themselves and everyone else.

Save states typically capture the instantaneous 'state' of the game running, including the current true save data.

Is this the case with Memories, or not? Why are people making this feel complicated?

Controllers not working after 1.30 update

My controllers are not responding after the update. I tried the 2.4ghz, a wired OG controller, and a Bluetooth controller. The sync button on the console doesn’t respond and the Bluetooth controller isn’t connecting.

Any tips would be appreciated

N64 Games better with save states

The memories are an obvious improvement in general but I like to know which games your in enjoying more in particular.

For me, I had a lot more patience with the last mission in Winback because of it and it makes all the nice 3D platformer more accessible for me since I like them but I’m pretty bad at playing them.

Also just realized that goldeneye is quite annoying sometimes in the second half of the game regarding the navigation. This way I can play it part by part (otherwise the game holds up nice imo).

What games are now better for you to play with saves states and why?

Down the Analogue Rabbit Hole I Go

I've developed a bit of a "problem" that started with the A3D where I now have a Mega SG, Super NT, Duo, and NT Mini Noir in my possession and have been playing stuff across all of them. I have the Pocket on order for fulfilment next month but I missed out on the Dock restock. I'm REALLY hoping they drop another restock once they start shipping in June because the secondhand markups are getting insane and seem to be going up as the days go by. Alternatively, I'm banking on the secondhand prices going down a bit once they ship out more of them soon and resellers start flooding the market and competing on pricing.

After having tinkered with all the current offerings, with the exception of the Pocket my favorite is still by and far the A3D with Mega SG and Super NT tied for second. Only improvements I'd like to see there would be 4K support and ability to power on with a wireless controller. The Duo was just a FOMO buy for me while they are still around at MSRP as I didn't own a single TG-16/PCE/CD game and never played any in the past. It's neat, but probably my least favorite. The NT Mini Noir sits in a weird spot of its own because it is an exceptionally nice piece of hardware but feels WAY too overengineered for my purposes. I would have liked to own one that's more similar to the Mega SG/Super NT with a plastic shell, HDMI output only, and a considerably lower sticker price.

Does anyone else not like save states on the analog 64?

I know it makes games easier and if used correctly it's a godsend! But I didn't even install update 1.30 yet.. for example I'm having so much fun playing road rash 64.. trying to complete level 5.. however if used save states like I did with roadrash on ps classic it made the game to easy..I know I can not use it.. but knowing it's there it's hard not to..lol

UPDATE: 8bitdo store sent me a new replacement.

I had a defective Z button and eventually the controller stopped registering B after playing not even 3 hours later. After talking to 8bitdo support, they asked me for videos and proof of the defect. They ended with saying they will send and await permission from somewhere up in the food chain. I was originally under the impression that they ghosted me afterwards but no, they were just slow haha. In total it took like 20 days to get a replacement, but I am very happy that I didn't have to buy another one. No need for proof of destruction but your experience might be different. The email is support@8bitdo.com if you need it!

Analogue3D save states picture

I'm not sure if anyone else knows this or not, but the save states are saved as a PNG image with additional information that's ignored when opening the image. It actually creates a screenshot that you can use however you want.

With the system off, pull the SD card, or connect the system to your computer, open the SD card on a computer, and then open the Memories folder. They are saved in individual folders.

I would recommend making a copy of the save state you want the image from so you don't mess anything up. Then you can save it and drop all the none-image data.

Is a European 3D analogue possible?

The new Neo Geo AES+ has stirred something within me, and ever since it was announced, I've been thinking about buying an Analogue 3D. I wonder if we'll ever be able to buy one from Europe without tariffs or paying US and local VAT, as well as those speculator friends. Cheers!

Question about memories & backups

Hello fellow retro gamers,

like many of you, I’m really excited about the new save state feature.

I’m in a somewhat specific situation: I organize an old school LAN party at the end of the year, where we’ll also have a retro gaming corner, and my Analogue console will be part of it.

Even though there will be 40+ people attending, it’s still a private event and I personally know and trust everyone there. Still, I can’t help being a little worried that someone might accidentally overwrite or delete save data on one of my cartridges.

So my big question:
Does anybody know if the memories/save states are stored on the SD card? And if so, would creating an image/backup of the SD card be enough to fully secure them?

Thanks a lot!

Input lag w/ 8BitDo64 controllers and Analogue 3D?

Hello,

I recently purchased a Analogue 3D with 4 8BitDo64 controllers, and I use a Summercart 64. I'm happy with it but I have some issues with the input lag, especially with certain games, like Super Mario 64, which is unfortunate because I wanted to play some ROM hacks on it.

I updated the firmware of the console, the controllers and the Summercart, but I still have this issue. I use game mode on my TV.

Is there anything I can do to reduce this input lag? Is it due to using Bluetooth controllers?

Thanks!

Weird multiple physical controller pak behavior in 1.3

New behavior since 1.3, all original controllers and controller paks:

I started up Rush 2049 with two controllers each with their own controller pak. Controller pak 1 has my Rush 2049 saves in it. Controller pak 2 has no Rush 2049 saves on it. In less than a second of seeing the Midway logo it turned black and wouldn't do anything. I tried a bunch of stuff until I figured out that removing my controller pak in controller 1 let it actually start. Now in the main menu I hit "Players (1)". There I inserted the controller pak. It started rapidly flipping back and forth between "No saves" and "no controller pak". I took the controller paks out of controllers 1 and 2. And placed the controller pak with my saves into controller 2. My saves appeared under "controller pak 2". I removed the controller pak with saves on it from controller 2 and put it in controller 1. My saves appeared under "controller pak 1". I inserted the other controller pak into controller 2. It started rapidly flipping between showing my saves and "no controller pak". My hypothesis is that Analogue 3D OS 1.3 might have some bad interaction with multiple physical controller paks.

At least in Rush 2049.

Save states (Memories) and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Unofficial FAQ

Should I create a Memory at the title screen?

Nope! This will not capture any of your save file information. If you capture and load a Memory like this, you’ll have no save files.

Where should I capture Memories?

You should capture each save file you’d like to back up when you’re in game. You don’t need to be paused or do an in-game save to successfully capture Memories.

Alternatively, you can capture a Memory at the file select screen. You'll load that Memory, load into your file, and save in-game to write to your cart. You can use that same Memory again and repeat with your other two files. This is quicker.

Can I load Memories onto my Summer Cart / Everdrive?

Yes, provided that you are using the same “Revision”/Rev of the game in your flash cart. Ocarina has several versions, and they’ll need to match for the Memory to come up in the OS when you’re running Ocarina from the flash cart.

How do I store my saves / Memories on the flash cart?

Load your Memory, then save in-game. If you happen to have a translucent flash cart, you’ll probably see a light flash as the save is written to the SD card.

What happens to the old save file?

Saving in-game will write over the save file in the same save file slot that you captured with the Memory. This works smoothly, but it’s important to keep in mind which slot you are manipulating. It also means that, as an example, you can’t combine Memories from save files that exist on the same slot onto one flash cart save or original Ocarina cartridge. You would need to copy one of those saves to a different slot before you begin.

You mentioned original cartridges. Does all of this work the same way for original carts?

Yup!

So I can replace my battery?

Yes, once you have captured each of your saves or your file select screen, the Analogue 3D has the tools to restore the files via Memories.

Does it matter what order my Memories are in, or which order I load them and save them in-game?

Nope. The Memory knows which file slot is active and will write to the slot that was active when the Memory was captured.

But how do you know there isn’t some weird glitch I’ll encounter with my saves?

I am not 100% sure that every aspect of the saves will be captured perfectly with Memories. I can tell you I checked through the inventory and progress on each file, ran around a bit, saved in-game, soft reset and hard reset, and then loaded those saves, all without issue. Out of an abundance of caution, I think it would be wise to create two Memories for each file that you treasure, in the event that one gets corrupted or won’t load. If that’s still not sufficient, you can wait for Ocarina die hards to say more about their experience with loaded Memories.

What about other games?

It seems like each game handles the save data slightly differently. This FAQ should be considered specific to Ocarina of Time, though some of the same ideas may be applicable to other games.

Edit: capturing the file select screen does capture your saves, and you'll need to load that Memory and save in-game for each file you want to write to your cart. Thank you u/ExtraLives and u/V64jr for checking my work!

Memories issues

Has anyone had any serious issues or problems with save states? So far I have not encountered any, but I’m just curious if anybody has lost any saved data or had any corrupted files or anything like that.

Please Analogue make a transfer pak compatible with the 8bitdo controller.

As the title says.

It would be great if I didn't have to use my OG controller to use the transfer pak.

My Analogue 3D won't play imports

Edit: Problem solved! I had to clean them with isopropyl alcohol

I picked up some Japanese imports recently, but they won't run on the Analogue 3D. The farthest I can get is to have it recognized...but then it goes to a blank screen. I'm on the most recent firmware update. Does anyone know what I can do?

Save States (memories)

For those of you who are curious the save states work on everything including rom hacks, and emulator games running on an emulator. For context I’m using a summer cart. Each game that it detects as an original game has 20 save states. For rom hacks or snes games, you have a total of 20 save states on the summer cart. Hope this helps.

Analogue 3D WiFi

Not trying to make another post bemoaning this but like… serious question. Why release it with the onboard hardware for WiFi and not patch the firmware to enable it after a year plus? Does it just not work? Can we get a community jailbreak or something to add and maintain it at least? It just seems so strange to me that the hardware is there but not enabled because the firmware is not allowing it right now. Is it reliability? Anyone have any idea?

Again not trying to whine about it. Just genuinely find it strange.
