New contract with Humboldt County $623,062

Haven’t seen thise reported here but in early July, Humboldt County approved a new 3-year contract with Planet. It’s easy to find online in PDF form.

The imagery is to be used by the county for building, planning, and code enforcement analyses and inspections. Not to exceed $194,015 for fiscal year 2026-27, and $207,687 for fiscal year 2027-28, and $221,360 for fiscal year 2028-29.

Obviously not a big contract, but there are over 3,000 counties in the US. Even if 20% of them eventually use it for building and planning inspections, that’s a huge revenue stream nearly equal to the company’s current annual revenue. We’re literally still in the earliest stages of Planet Labs’ growth, which is what I think a lot of people concerned about the current price action don’t understand.

Hollywood’s new tax credits are being called out for being ineffective at saving jobs.

Interesting controversy over whether the new expanded animation-related tax credits are being abused by studios. Pixar art-of book author Amid Amidi is urging California officials to tighten oversight of film tax credits after Pixar received a $26.2 million state incentive and then laid off 116 employees just days later. The layoffs followed the release of Toy Story 5, currently the highest-grossing film of 2026.
