My long national nightmare is (almost) over - NACS adapter finally shipped (US)

I purchased a new Hyundai Kona EV in September 2021. When the NACS transition was announced, I was excited to hear that I was eligible for a free NACS adapter.

When the emails started going out, I quickly realized I never received any sort of email or official notification letting me know I was eligible or that I'd be receiving it. I spent over a year contacting Hyundai customer service only to always be given the runaround - "oh, emails are still going out" - "oh, they've all been delayed" - "somebody on that team will contact you back within 7 business days" (never to receive a response) - "oh, wait until the end of 2025". I'd basically given up hope I'd ever receive mine.

Well, fast forward to earlier this week - on Monday, I received a call from Hyundai telling me I'd be receiving my adapter in the mail "within the next 3 weeks" and to confirm my mailing address. Woke up this morning to, at long last, a tracking number. A ~16 month long voyage is nearly at its end!

tl;dr - don't give up hope if you still haven't received any word on the status of your adapter! They are, unbelievably, still working their way through the queue.

(Also obligatory fuck Elon Musk, I have no intention on giving him or his companies any of my money unless absolutely necessary - but NACS is the future of EV charging in the US, so I'll be glad to receive my adapter either way.)

Jordan's, Reading, MA (IMAX Dual Laser) - The Odyssey thoughts

Not my first time at this location, but my first time in a while (used to go all the time in the pre-COVID days)

First, quick thoughts about the movie itself - it was amazing, of course. A technical marvel and a beautiful story, with all the care and craft you'd expect from a Nolan film. Not my favorite in his catalog, but maybe second to Interstellar for me.

Now a review on the theater itself... this is so, so, so close to a perfect theater with just like one or two minor flaws that keep it from being a 10/10. A few previous posts here from last year mentioned that the screen suffers from these weird circular defects and a spot at the very top that appears to be slightly peeling. These have not been fixed yet. Honestly, they weren't super distracting for me and you couldn't even notice the issues during anything but the brightest of bright scenes, but when you do notice them they do take you out of the experience a bit. I hope they get fixed soon.

Defects in the screen aside, this theater offers an incredible experience. While it may not be a 70mm theater, it boasts “New England’s only dual-laser IMAX screen” (according to Eliot, the Jordan’s-man), and it truly lives up to the hype. The screen is pristine, bright, and crystal clear with deep contrast. Although I haven’t seen an IMAX 70mm, I can’t imagine I was missing much.

The sound system was another highlight. As a hearing-impaired person, I usually don’t pay much attention to audio, but I felt compelled to mention it. There’s a scene in The Odyssey that features some of the most intense sounds and noises imaginable, and it was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in a theater before with this sound system. The theater has “buttkickers” under the seats that thump the seats during loud, bass-y moments. Initially, I thought it might be a bit gimmicky, but it actually makes a significant difference. I had no trouble hearing any of the dialogue, and everything sounded clear and immersive, even with my hearing loss.

One tip for anyone thinking of heading to this location - get there early. We were nearly 2 hours early and there were quite a few people in front of us. The line was wrapping around Jordan's, into the lobby, 45 minutes before showtime. Not sure if this is typical here or if its just because of The Odyssey hype, but I'd say you want to be here, in line, at least an hour early for a movie like this.

Anyways, great experience, super looking forward to seeing this again soon! Can't wait for my next visit to Jordan's and hope they fix the few minor issues with the screen.
