Tethkar update — more sizes, custom storefronts, and an honest ask

Hey everyone, quick update on the free button maker platform I posted here a few days ago.

Since then I've added a lot more size options, went from 7 to 28 variant combinations, with proper metric and imperial measurement support so it works regardless of what system you use. You can also adjust sizing directly in your product catalog now, and adding designs is smoother with a proper file picker instead of the clunky flow before.

If you want your own branded storefront instead of just the shared platform, that's in now too, custom domain, your own theme.

I also want to be upfront about something. The print quality in the photos below isn't great, and that's on me, not the platform. I don't own a printer yet, so I've been relying on a local print shop, but their printer isn't really built for this kind of work and there's no other shop near me to compare. The PDFs generated by the platform are print-ready and accurate, this is purely an equipment problem on my end.

That's actually part of why I want to keep this free and grow it. The platform runs on ads, and if enough of you find it useful, it'll get me to the point where I can afford a proper printer myself and stop depending on a shop that isn't set up for this.

Still building this with the community, so if there's a size, feature, or fix you need, tell me and I'll get to it.

This is the link to try it out!

My free for all button makers platform!

Hi everyone, I was working on building something for myself earlier but figured why not open it for everyone, I made a platform that has all productivity features for button makers, especially PDF generation that is not behind a paywall, I also threw in a couple of extras like inventory management, orders and a storefront and more!

I made this youtube video to showcase it (this is the first video I ever made so please bare with me lol)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dcv5pqBZPm8

Right now I support 3 buttons, will add more if I see interest from the community 🙏
Feel free to ask for anything new too! this will be a tool built by the community for the community

Is it worth it to build an online website for the community?

Hi,

I was thinking about building a system for me to manage my clients orders, user previews, inventory management, etc

I did my homework and saw the online tools, it's not like them at all (not even near)

And had the idea to open it for the community, the project is currently working fine "for me" and wanted to get the feedback of a couple of makers here to see if there is a need for it before investing the time to build it properly as I currently vibe coded it (I'm a software engineer and I know my way around making it good and not slop) but it would not handle a large amount of users, so I want to know if it's worth the investment

If you are interested please dm me and I will share more details, I'm looking for people who actually sold buttons before and preferrably have tech background (optional but nice to have)

Thanks!

Shipping from Cina to Oman

Hi, did anyone recently ship anything from China to Muscat? This is my first time ever to ship anything and I need to talk to someone experienced in this

Is it even a good idea to do so now with the current situation?

Thanks 🙏

Starting a new business and not a clue on how to close my first deal

Hi everyone,

I'm a software engineer starting my first business, and I'm completely new to sales.

I'm launching a physical product in the gifting/promotional space that isn't currently being offered in my country. It can be sold to both businesses and individual customers, but my initial focus is schools and educational institutions.

The product is relatively inexpensive, can be purchased individually or in bulk, and the pricing becomes more attractive at higher quantities.

My biggest challenge right now is the sales process itself.

Let's say I've done my research, identified the right decision-maker at a school, and managed to get a meeting with them. What should I do during that first meeting?

Some questions I have:

  • How should I structure the conversation?
  • How much time should I spend talking versus asking questions?
  • What are good discovery questions to understand their needs?
  • What mistakes do first-time salespeople commonly make?
  • If they raise objections, should I address them immediately or keep the conversation focused on understanding their situation?
  • What should I wear when meeting school administrators or business owners?
  • What should my goal be for the first meeting: make a sale, schedule a follow-up, provide samples, etc.?
  • Are there any sales books, frameworks, or techniques you wish you had learned earlier?

One reason I'm targeting schools is that the product can help strengthen students' sense of belonging and school identity, but I'm trying to learn how to discuss value with potential customers without sounding overly promotional.

For context, I have zero professional sales experience, so even advice that seems obvious may be useful.

I'd especially love to hear from people who sell physical products to schools, universities, or organizations.

Thanks!
