Anyone Remember The Music Shop in Jacksonville Beach?

The 1988 movie Illegally Yours was filmed in St. Augustine with a few scenes in Jacksonville Beach. It's a truly terrible attempt at zany screwball comedy by Peter Bogdanovich starring Rob Lowe and Colleen Camp, but is fun to watch because of the local places used as locations.

There's a chase scene in a music store that appears to be The Music Shop in Jacksonville Beach at 239 First St. N., a real business owned by the same people as the club Einstein-a-Go-Go. Here's Rob Lowe walking in at the 1:00 mark of the movie.

Anyone remember the store? It looks like the building is the Surf and Skate Surf Shop today.

All the "Peaches Ahead" Signs on A1A

When you're driving south on Anastasia Island on A1A, there are often "Peaches Ahead" signs. Today I saw one near the Alligator Farm and several more after that. They extend quite a ways down A1A. Maybe as far as Butler Beach.

Where exactly are these peaches? We've never found the seller. Just their signs.

Murray Bros Caddyshack Restaurant Has Played Its Final Hole

Murray Bros Caddyshack restaurant at World Golf Village has closed after 25 years. The last day was Saturday.

When it opened in 2001, World Golf Village had a World Golf Hall of Fame, IMAX Theater, PGA Tour store, miniature golf course and Sam Snead Tavern steakhouse. Caddyshack was the last of them to exit.

The decision to build WGV at the end of a long looping drive instead of a close highway exit made it difficult for anything to last there. A reporter said that even in the early days the businesses privately called it the "Donut of Doom."

Amici Restaurant Has Closed

Amici Restaurant on Anastasia Island at 312 and A1A has closed. A sign on the door reads, "After six unforgettable years, Amici has permanently closed. Thank you for being part of our story."

The restaurant was there when I moved here in the 1990s. It was owned by siblings Vito Arena and Benedetta Dubetz, then later bought by Freddy and Jennifer Underhill. They put it up for sale in 2025 with an asking price of $3.5 million.

The Underhills took over on March 11, 2020, right before Covid-19 shutdowns began. The owners announced the closing on Facebook:

A review on Yelp said their last day was Sunday and had two photos of their cannolis, which were legit.

The Floridian Needs to Move Again

Just kidding, but when you go to CVS there's a long line of parked cars on the alley next to the drugstore and more along Old Beach Road. The new location has a lot more customers than its parking lot can fit.

I've eaten almost everywhere in town but this restaurant. How is it?

10 Cop Cars Racing North Up I-95 Past WGV

Shortly before 8 p.m. tonight I saw 10 police cars heading up I-95 northbound with their lights and sirens on past the World Golf Village Exit towards Jacksonville.

Eight of the cop cars were clustered together like something out of Smokey and the Bandit.

Anyone know what drew that kind of police response?

Buffalo Wild Wings Has Left the Building

We drove past the Buffalo Wild Wings on 312 today and saw the signs are down and there's a padlock on the door.

That location might be cursed. It used to be a TGI Fridays that burned down.

There was a question posted here about what happened to St. John's Seafood but I can't find it now, presumably because it was deleted by the OP.

St. John's Seafood and Steaks became Lila's Seafood and Steaks in 2014 and had locations at 7546 Beach Blvd. and 1161 S. Lane Ave. The owners stayed the same after the name change and had been in business since 1983. It was run by Lila Rukab and her son Robert Rukab and was closed by 2018.

The Beach Blvd. building was torn down in 2023. The Lane Ave. restaurant is now Mr. Crab Seafood. Robert Rukab is opening a Big Jake’s BBQ at 4906 Soutel Dr. in Jacksonville.

I got one message to my Yelp account from someone far outside my area asking "Can I ask you about living in Florida?" and another from a different user in the same city asking "Do you prefer trying new places or sticking to familiar ones?" The users have only 1-2 reviews.

I have ignored the messages. I am curious what they are trying to accomplish.
